Ex-model Paige McCarty is fed up with being just a pretty face. After her ex-husband’s gambling problem left her royally screwed and tragically shoeless, she started Fool Me Once Investigations with her best friends, Lorlei and Kennedy, to prevent other women from being similarly played and dismayed.
The job: act as bait for a cheating husband. The target: Matt Russo. The case should be as easy as getting a man’s attention—and Paige has never had trouble with that. The problem is Matt—in all his nerdy-hot glory—turns out to be not such a scumbag after all.
And when the case hits closer to home than Paige could ever have imagined—landing her in a face-off with the mob—she wonders if taking the job just to prove that she has a brain maybe wasn’t her best idea.
This second outing for the Fool Me Once team follows in the same fun, feisty footsteps as bestselling author Tara Sivec’s Shame on You.
Every time I think I can’t love a Tara Sivec book more than the last one I read, she proves me wrong. She can turn your frown upside down and have you feeling like your walking around with a tank of laughing gas. Her books are hilarious, sexy, and they never fail to leave me wearing a perma-smile! I loved Shame On You and was anxiously anticipated the release of Shame On Me. Well, as usual, she did not disappoint! Yes, my family thinks I’m crazy while I laugh and snort with my nose buried in my kindle, but I’ll proudly wear the crazy badge if that means I can read a book of hers whenever they release!
Paige McCarty is a famous supermodel. She’s tired of everyone, especially her ex-husband Andy—the lying, stealing, piece of shit ex, thinking she’s just a beautiful face with no brains. People “use her looks for their benefit”, not seeing the brains beneath the beauty. She works with her two best friends, Kennedy and Lorelei, for Fool Me Once Investigations—where the help women “avoid looking like fools when the men in their lives played them.”
“They say you have to kiss a few frogs before you meet your Prince Charming. Well, I’m kissing a thousand frogs to show other women that Prince Charming will screw you over the first chance he gets.”
Paige’s job is to lure cheating husbands to kiss her, a photo is taken, and voila the wife is vindicated. Sounds like a piece of cake, right? It is—until she meets Matt.
Matt Russo is Paige’s latest case. His wife, Melanie, hired Fool Me Once Investigations to catch Matt in the “act”. Hours after stalking watching “Mr. Cheater McCheatpants,” Paige grows restless—bored even. Matt is the worst cheater in the history of cheaters. Her plan to trap Matt into giving in to her kiss is failing miserably.
Anyhoo, she continues to “watch” Matt hoping to catch him getting some action, but it’s not happening. Little does she know that Melanie is not so innocent and Matt is not the cheater he’s painted out to be. She finds out that Melanie has set him up—hoping to get some dirt on him to use in the divorce proceedings in order to take him for everything he’s got, including his father’s company that is worth boat-loads of money.
Paige decides to turn the tables. She sets out to expose Melanie and her cheating ways and help Matt keep his Dad’s company all to himself. Along the way, Paige and Matt seem to be drawn together. They have this attraction that they can’t seem to fight.
The kisses they share—holy God! So hot. Especially the one on the hood of his car where I would’ve been hoping he would just rip off my clothes and do the deed! But Matt, the perfect gentleman, won’t have any of that.
“I don’t want to go, I swear. But if I don’t leave right now, I’m going to take you upstairs, lock the door, and refuse to come out until we’re both naked, sweaty, and exhausted.”
I’m sorry, what’s the problem again? (I’m with you, Paige!!!)
Between the hot as hell heat-fest they create and the hilarity of their quest to bring Melanie down, Shame On Me had me fanning myself one minute and doubled over in hysterics the next. Paige’s Mom and her church going friends will have you in stiches—with their Golden Girl ways and hilarious antics, they seriously need their own book.
I’m not giving anything else away. You have to read Paige and Matt’s story for yourself to find out where these two wind up. Tara proves to me over and over what a fantastic writer she is. I LOVE this series and can’t wait for Shame On Him!!!
