There once was a boy, and I loved him.
Logan Francis Silverstone was the complete opposite of me. I danced while he stood still. He was quiet, and I was always running my mouth. He struggled to find a smile while I refused to frown.
The night I saw the darkness that truly lived inside of him, I couldn’t look away.
We were broken together, yet somehow whole. We were wrong together, but always right. We were the stars that burned across the night sky, searching for a wish, praying for better tomorrows.
Until the day I lost him. He threw us away with one hasty decision—a decision that changed us forever.
There once was a boy, and I loved him.
And for a few breaths, a few whispers, a few moments, I think he loved me, too.
Book #2 in the Romance Elements Series.
Life is messy. Winding roads, bumps and bruises, ups and downs, heartache, pain, loneliness—it’s real, raw and it’s brutal at times. We make choices—decisions that alter our path and sometimes the choices we make hurt the ones we love the most. Other times, decisions are made for us and we are left to figure out how to navigate through the destruction to find our happily ever after.
Logan Silverstone knows pain. He knows disappointment. He lives his life every day trying to chase the lows and find the high. Growing up in poverty with an abusive father and a junkie mother, he truly believes he has nothing to offer. He is destined to become just like his parents and sinks deep into despair, turning to drugs to numb his pain and help him escape. As he gets older, he’s afraid to love, afraid to bring those around him into his circle of destruction.
Alyssa lives a privileged life—with a beautiful home, a secure financial future. But within the walls of her home, there is no light, no love. Her mother may be successful providing Alyssa with financial security, but she is worthy of the “Worst Mom of the Year Award.” Never one to show love or give love, she is constantly trying to drag Alyssa down. With an absent father who constantly disappoints her, it’s a wonder that her heart is so big and her love is so strong.
Logan and Alyssa meet and although they are from different worlds, they become the best of friends—two people who are completely opposite, but complete each other. She brings light into his dark days and when he gets really low, she’s his high. She grounds him. He is her constant, when she’s lonely, afraid of a storm or afraid of the future, he’s the one person she turns to for security.
“…when we aren’t together, I close my eyes, and I see you in my mind. That’s the moment when I never feel alone.”
This is the story of their friendship, the highs and lows of life, and the journey to find love amidst the chaos.
“If only he knew that his love was the only thing that kept my heart beating… Oh, how I wished he’d love me out loud.”
Under the influence, Logan made so many hurtful decisions—he was reckless and his choices that caused all the people he loved so much pain, I wanted to reach into my kindle and shake him.
“You’re going to break my heart, aren’t you?” I whispered against his ear.
He nodded, guilt in his eyes. “ I might.”
I loved the secondary characters in this story. Their love was unwavering and although they had their lives put together, they had their own share of suffering.
Brittainy Cherry wrote a story that pulled at my heartstrings. My heart hurt in so many places and I felt as though I was right there with the couple, routing for their happily every after. Can two people from two completely different worlds find the love and happiness they deserve?
“Because at the end of the day, we’re all lost. We’re all cracked. We’re all scarred. We’re all broken. We’re all just trying to figure out this thing called life, you know?”
