“He was my darkness and I was his light. We couldn’t exist without each other.”
For me, life was simple. I went to school and studied. I spent time with my friends and stayed out of trouble. I didn’t drink or swear and I only dated gentlemen. I was the typical good girl with a bright future. My world seemed perfect.
But that was about to change.
Ryder Delaney was the one imperfection in my life. He was the bad boy, the black sheep, the one your mother always warned you about. He had only one hard-and-fast rule – Don’t fall in love.
But some rules were meant to be broken.
We were best friends, inseparable since childhood despite our differences. I knew the real man hiding behind the tattoos and bad attitude. He knew all my secrets and dreams. But he didn’t know there was one thing I wanted and couldn’t have…him.
But sometimes Fate has a way of intervening. Soon our world collapsed. War erupted. Darkness prevailed. Alone and on the run, our only goal was to survive and to ignore the feelings we had for each other. But love is powerful…
and so is the darkness.
We all had that one friend growing up, the one that knew everything about you and would do anything for you. What if that best friend was a boy who grew up to be a schmexy badass? That is the story for Maddie and Ryder, childhood friends who knew more about each other than anyone else did, the good, the bad and all that comes in between.
OMG Ryder is a piece of work. He’s a badass womanizer with tattoos who will never fall in love. Women flock to him and want to be with him, even if it’s for just a night…after all that’s all he has to offer. I love how right from the time we meet him he is domineering and protective over Maddie, hell he gets in a fight to defend the honor of his lifelong friend. When Maddie takes him home to take care of him they end up flirting with each other…I thought it was cute how Maddie wondered when they got to that point. She is so unaware of how attracted Ryder is to her and how much he needs her.
When tragedy strikes America the two (along with Maddie’s friend Eva and her boyfriend Brody) are forced to flee across Texas, trying to find their way home. Throughout their travels there are awful obstacles to overcome…including the tension (of the sexual nature) between Maddie and Ryder. Poor Maddie was getting mixed signals from Ryder and as bad as she wanted him she also wanted to be nowhere near him. When they finally make it back to their childhood homes the hits just keep coming, bad news all around. Now the two are practically living with each other (and their families) and it seems to make things worse.
When alone Maddie stood her ground and was strong. Telling herself she didn’t need Ryder and that they shouldn’t be together because he didn’t do “relationships”. I just kept saying to myself “He doesn’t do relationships?? Then what has he had with Maddie all these years, being best friends IS a relationship you dummy!!!!”
“He may deny his feelings all he wanted but his body screamed to possess mine again. His hardness made me want him with a need, a craving, that I’d never felt before.”
When Ryder was anywhere near her it was another story altogether. He was just sex on a stick in my opinion….strong, powerful, tattooed, blue eyes….yum yum!! Maddie couldn’t refuse anything he asked of her…EVER!
While they are struggling to stay alive and keep their families safe their world changes in ways that I could never imagine. Their feelings for one another surface and fade, spring back up and runaway….I swear I had whiplash! They were amazing together and oh the things he could do **swoon**. Talk about HOT!!! Will they be able overcome their stubbornness, their new way of life, and the struggles they now face?? Well, we have to wait to find out :( The next book Promise Me Light is set to come out in late September! Be sure to come back on September 26th when your Schemxy Girls will participate in the Promise Me Light blog tour. We will have a review all ready to go for you and we CANNOT wait!
Reading has always been my first passion. That turned into a love for writing at a young age. I wrote my first book when I was a teenager and haven’t stopped since. “Promise Me Darkness” is the first book I have publicly published.
I’m a native Texan who still lives in the town where I was born. I live with my husband and two children. If I’m not reading or writing, I’m chasing my kids around and trying to maintain my sanity with a teenager and preschooler.
