Jack and Lexi never had a typical relationship. After 2 years without speaking, she receives a phone call that changes everything. He unexpectedly asks her to convince the new girl, Bekah, that he’s ready to commit. Jack is calling now after everything they had been through because there is another woman. She can’t believe it. Follow Lexi in this heart wrenching drama as she relives her past relationship, or lack thereof, with Jack, and not just in her own mind, but to his fiance-to-be. Throw in Bekah’s hot brother who always seems to be in the right place at the right time, a past with more secrets to unravel than you can even imagine, and you get a recipe for disaster. Find out what happens to Lexi as she travels to Atlanta to get the closure she so desperately desires from Jack, and how the bumps of life seem to keep getting in the way.
Let me just start by saying that I LOVED this book, however it completely FUCKED with my head! I am the type of person who jumps right into a sequel because I NEED to know where the story goes. I could not do this after finishing Avoiding Commitment. My heart needed a serious break.
With that said, let me tell you about the story of Jack and Lexi. Never before have I really disliked a male character to the point of calling him an ASSHAT, well, that’s what Jack is, a giant asshat! He is a liar and a cheater and I just don’t know what Lexi saw in him at all. But there must be something about him because I found myself rooting for them on and off throughout the whole story, yelling at them through my Kindle (I think my husband was ready to have me committed) when they pissed me off or surprised me.
K.A. Linde takes us on a journey covering 6 years, this is not a fly by night, oh my god I love you, HEA all wrapped up in a week….NO WAY! She tortures us back and forth from the moment they met to the present when Jack asks Lexi to convince his girlfriend that he is ready to commit. As I learned about who they were and who they have become I was on a see-saw, up and down, up and down. I started off wanting them to work and then as I read on I wanted Lexi to wise up. She needed to be strong and realize that she doesn’t need Jack, but he is a magnet for her…he draws her in only to disappoint over and over.
Jack and Lexi agree to be friends at one point and even I saw what a disaster waiting to happen that was!
“It was only one kiss, but it left her heart speeding ahead of her. She rolled to face him, and met his smoldering gaze. Everything about their embrace in that moment showed that they weren’t friends. That they could never be friends. That they were stupid for even trying.”
I don’t want to give anything away but I will say that this book does not end with a HEA but it will leave you wanting more! I am just about ready to finally read Avoiding Responsibility and get all kinds of messed up again. The third and final book will also be coming out soon, be on the look out for my follow-up reviews ;)
