One night changed my life forever.
Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it’s more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can’t.I haven’t told anyone.I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.
Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn’t care who I used to be, he’s simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.
I’ve been hurt.
I’ve been saved.
And I’ve found hope.
I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…
A friend of mine starting reading When It Rains just a few days before I did. She was talking about the ugly tears and all of the tissues she was going through. Well…needless to say, I didn’t believe her (as I’ve mentioned before I’m a pretty tough cookie) and boy was I wrong! I was so glad that my husband and kids were out and didn’t witness the heavy sobbing and the steady flow of tears. So trust me when I say to be prepared with some extra soft tissues…you WILL need them!
That being said, let’s get started!
Kate has a past that has haunted her daily for nearly two years. She has never spoken to anyone about that one night that changed her life. My heart was breaking for her from the prologue on. What happens to her is an unfortunate incident that occurs more than I would like to think about. It changes who she is and her relationships begin to change as well.
Her best friend Beau is headed to college. He is amazing, he doesn’t push Kate to talk about what has been going on with her. I think he was the only true friend Kate had before her incident, and even though she never told him what happened it is hard for them to say good-bye. When you throw in Beau’s confession the night before he leaves, it just complicates things even more. Kate is not ready for what he is offering, she still has miles to go and no one to be there for her. Beau agrees to play by her rules and tells her that he will come back for her.
Kate carries on with her life. She works, runs, and lies in her bed staring at the ceiling. Closed off from the world until the day she meets Asher Hunt. At first he is just another customer in the diner. But is there something more? Kate seems to be drawn to him and she doesn’t know why. Asher was sweet (and a little bit cocky – or maybe it was just confidence) from the moment we are introduced to him. Kate waits on him and he leaves her a napkin note (remember that term)…
“I’d love to see you smile once in awhile.”
Kate and Asher begin to spend time together, he brings her out of her shell without forcing her to be someone she is not. I think that Kate felt so comfortable with him because he doesn’t know who she used to be, he has nothing to compare the current Kate to, he just wants her to be happy. Kate and Asher both have some secrets that they are not ready to discuss with the other. As they move forward they both seem to relax and are there for each other, no matter what as it appears. Asher wants to make Kate forget what has happened and to start all over again.
As Kate, Asher, and even Beau move on with their lives you will be enthralled with this book. It’s difficult to talk too much more about the story without giving anything away. But trust me when I say that this is a must read, it’s passionate and intense and you do not want to miss out on this one.
“It’s loving, passionate, and intense…it’s everything a kiss should be. It’s everything Asher is.”
