It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.
Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.
Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.
I was excited to be given another book about a fighter (this time an MMA fighter) for an honest review. Well let me honestly say that I LOVED IT! From the start to the end I could not put it down (almost didn’t return from my lunch break – I had made the mistake of starting it because I just couldn’t resist!). My husband once again thought I was nuts for reading an entire book in a day, that is until that I shared some parts of the book with him ;)
Let’s start by chatting about Elle. She is a successful lawyer who is perpetually late for everything. Elle believes that her life is going well – secrets from her past are buried and forgotten, she is quasi-dating her friend from college William, and she has an awesome best friend Regina that works with her.
Enter Nico Hunter….the OMG, drop your panties, “Lady Killer”, MMA fighter – commence *swooning* now! He meets Elle under the pretense of a business contract, and comes to see her to follow up.
“Nico smiles a devilish smile and I get the urge to kiss it right off his face. What the hell is wrong with me? I’m calm, cool, and collected. Not some schoolgirl at a loss around the cute boy in class.”
Nico makes Elle begin to question what she is doing with William, who if you ask me seems like the easy road to take to Boredomville LOL Nico and Elle begin to see each other and wow is he a gentleman. I was expecting some man whore like we see in some other stories. Don’t get me wrong, it seems like he has had his fair share in the past but it doesn’t become an obstacle in their relationship. Elle is enamored with him. The fact that he cooks, she can talk to him for hours, and he seems to respect her probably made that easy for her.
Nico takes things slow with Elle, however when talking to his trainer/friend, Preach, he asks,
“How long do normal people date before they sleep together?”
Seriously, that’s a gentlemanly statement right?! I love that he has so much self control but shows how much he wants her at the same time. So many things made me laugh in this story. These are two of my favorite Elle-isms from the book:
“I’m relieved that I had removed the flavored condoms that Regina had shoved into my purse before I left yesterday. Bacon flavor. What woman wants to taste meat while, you know, tasting meat?”
“ ‘I need to taste all of you.’ I seriously think I have a mini orgasm at his words.”
While all of this is going on we get each of the POVs on their pasts. Elle and Nico both have some serious skeletons in their closets. Nico’s is more public but his feelings about it are something that he hides, feeling like a monster if anyone were to find out. Elle is the same way, her past is behind her but she wonders how Nico will feel about her if he ever finds out what she did.
I really liked the fact that there was no excessive drama in this story, everything flowed nicely and was sweet but also SUPER schmexy ;) Oh, you want an example do you…hmmmmmm, lemme see here…
“Ride me. You’re so tight and wet. I’m going to fill up that sexy little pussy and make it mine. I want my smell on you. In you. So that the whole god damn world knows your mine.”
Nico and Elle also have this gentleness and kindness within their relationship. They have this pull to be near one another and help each other pull through their issues.
“Everything else in the room disappears and it’s as if we’re the only two in a long tunnel, sitting on opposite ends, but inexplicably drawn to each other.”
As the two travel down their new path, where will it lead? Can their feelings tear them apart or bring them closer?
“The Nico I know is a fighter. Isn’t she worth the fight?”
This book is definitely worth it, I know you will enjoy it!!
