Aleena Moore is content with her life. She has goals and dreams and an easy smile. She also has a secret she holds locked inside.
Jared Holt believes he doesn’t deserve to love or be loved. He destroys everything he touches. Haunted by the mistake that shattered his life, he’s fled from the memory of that pain.
Jared doesn’t know why he’s compelled to return, but finds himself drawn back to the place where it all began. The exact place where it ended. When he runs into his childhood best friend, Aleena’s older brother Christopher, he agrees to share Christopher and Aleena’s apartment while he looks for a place of his own.
Aleena is no longer the little girl Jared remembers from his past and evokes feelings in him he never wanted to feel again. Terrified of destroying her, he fights to keep her away. But her touch is something he can’t resist—the touch that sealed his fate.
Their pasts are intertwined and their futures uncertain. The only truths they know are the secrets they whisper in the night.
Holy crap, this book was amazeballs and had me at hello or in this case chapter one. It was full of on your seat heart palpitating suspense and a love story you just couldn’t help but to route for that would hopefully end like a fairy tale or in my case and really hot dream about it.
Aly has been in love with her brother’s best friend Jared since she was a little girl. Both Christopher and Jared’s parents were like family to one another, while Christopher and Jared were best friends since they were babies and Aly being younger than them just couldn’t stop tagging along with the big boys from the time she could walk. She saw Jared as her protector and also as her first love. But tragedy struck both families and had also taken Jared away.
“When I looked back now, I wondered how it was possible for a heart to be broken at fourteen. But my heart had, because it’d broken for him. My feelings for Jared had haunted me, left this hollowed-out place deep inside me.”
After being gone for so many years, Christopher sees Jared in what seemed like forever and takes him in to the apartment that he shares with Aly, while he looks for a place on his own.
“Jared Holt was here. He was real, no longer a veiled mystery that I’d hidden away in my heart. He lived. He breathed. And God, if he wasn’t the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.”
But being in such close quarters with one another proves to tug Jared and Aly towards one another. However, it is Jared that doesn’t want to pull Aly down his already spiraling out of control life and they also both know what it would do to Christopher because he has warned Jared over and over again not to go near her. Could living with one another be the straw that broke the camel’s back and causes them to seek comfort in another and heal their broken hearts?
“Fools fell into these kinds of traps. We both knew it went to so much deeper than friendship, even though that was why its foundation was so solid.”
And I, being the avid reader I am, literally could not put this book down to do anything else. Yes, ask my poor hungry stomach. AL Jackson added all the components that my book obsession requires, a sexy, motorcycle riding, tattooed, young hotty, sexual tension that you can cut with a knife as well keeping me intrigued with the uncertainty of what each page will bring me. I needed to keep going and going on this to see what happened in the end and now that I am finished, I may have to go read this over again once I am done telling y’all just what an amazing read this is.
