Hot and consuming, this is a New Adult romance about a wayward musician and the one girl who keeps him grounded…
At college, Rachel has a reputation for being a sarcastic flirt with a thing for ripped athletes. No one at college knows her heart was ripped to shreds by her high school boyfriend, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle. And then subsequently abandoned her. No one really knows Rachel Mattson at all, with one exception…
Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. But the supposed bad boy can’t risk letting Rachel know the truth—especially now that the two of them are back in their hometown for the summer, together for the first time since the months following that horrible night. Never mind that Rachel’s ex is also back, groveling for her forgiveness.
Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Now that Kai has had a taste of Rachel, he’s willing to do anything just to have her touch him again, even hiding his true feelings. After all, she only wants a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But perhaps it had been more all along.
Oh snap, Christina Lee did it for me AGAIN! This book is absolutely to die for. I am an utter embarrassment of a fan for this fucking author. She takes her novels to the next level and has completely captured me with this newest one.
“Scientists say that we’re all made up of pieces of stars. Never had that felt truer in my life than that one fateful night three years ago.”
Rachel was a passenger on a dirtbike, driven by her boyfriend Miles when she was thrown off. Miles walked away without a scratch and Rachel walked away with a severe head injury. Not only had she lost time with her healing and her rehab, but she lost Miles as well when he couldn’t stand by and watch her injury claim her. He walked away like a coward would and let others push Rachel to succeed in her rehab. One of those that stood by her day in and day out was her best friend, Dakota’s brother, Kai.
“I’d spent my college years erasing Miles from my mind by becoming a new person. A different person. With a second chance at life. I hadn’t let things tie me down, so I’d never let anyone get too close.”
Then after three years of being away in Amsterdam, the ubersexy, Kai came back into town. Kai, Dakota and Rachel were best friends for years and just like when she was in the hospital, Kai always took care of his two girls. And one night, when Rachel’s emotions were through the roof, everything changed in the dynamic of Kai and Rachel’s relationship.
“I felt a tentative brush of her lips against my skin. Right above the neckline of my shirt. ‘What are you doing, Rach? What do you need?’”
And that night proved there would be no going back to their normal friendship. With sexual tension through the roof after their first encounter, there was no denying that that night would happen again. Stolen kisses here. Longing looks from afar there. But was it the secrets of their meetings keeping their attraction so strong? Having their relationship hidden from their families, friends and especially Dakota? They did know this “thing” between them couldn’t continue though, Rachel was going back to her last year in college and Kai eventually had to grow up and make something of himself. So what were they? What could they ever be?
“Rachel was mine—all fucking mine, for these final stolen minutes. I wished that I could freeze this moment and stare into her eyes for all of eternity. I had no idea what the fuck we were doing—just that I needed this, too, even though I’d pay for it later.”
What will happen once they both leave one another?
Will they return to their friendship or could it be something more, much more?
