“The root of all madness is an unbearable truth…”
The root of all madness is an unbearable truth…
At seventeen, Willow Holloway’s life was torn apart. The happy, driven girl is gone, and she is left wracked by post-traumatic stress her body remembers even if she does not. When her father suddenly uproots the family from their posh penthouse in New York City to the tiny town of Harmony, Indiana, Willow becomes more untethered and lost under the weight of her secret. On a whim, she auditions for a part in the community theater’s production of Hamlet and unexpectedly wins the role of Ophelia—the girl who is undone by madness, and her love of Hamlet…
Isaac Pierce is from the ‘wrong side of the tracks.’ The town bad boy. Girls pine for his attention and guys are in awe of him. That he’s an acting prodigy only adds to his charisma. Isaac utterly disappears into his characters; the stage is the only place he feels safe from his own traumatic home life. He wants nothing more than to escape to Broadway or Hollywood, and leave Harmony behind for good.
No one can play Hamlet but Isaac, and when the director pairs him with Willow in acting class, they clash again and again—neither willing to open their hearts to anyone. But clashing leads to breaking, breaking leads to the spilling of terrible secrets, and soon Isaac and Willow find Shakespeare’s words mirroring their lives. When they are cruelly torn apart, neither know how this play will end—with madness and heartache? Or healing, love, and the discovery of who they are truly meant to be.
In Harmony is a standalone NEW ADULT love story, and is intended for readers 18 and up. PLEASE NOTE, this book contains sensitive material such as physical abuse, and the aftermath of sexual assault (off the page). Reader discretion is advised.
^^^^and that’s not enough!!!!^^^^
Whew….breathe Jesey, deep breaths. I finished reading this just a few minutes and I am still coming down from my high. Have you ever craved a book that would give you all the feels and simply be perfection?! Me too, and this…was…IT!!!! In Harmony by Emma Scott is a beautiful story of overcoming tragedies and finding where you are meant to be in life.
Girl. Crush. Willow is by far one of the best female leads that I have read. She is strong, yet weak. She is fun and playful but hides it most of the time. Willow shelters herself but when she gets going, there is no holding her back. Riddled with a secret from her past, one that she has never told anyone, she is trying to start over, to just be a normal girl.
A part of me is dead and gone. And I’ll never get it back.
Oh, my, WOW! Isaac freaking Pearce. Small town bad boy…but not really. The rumor mill in the small town of Harmony runs wide and Isaac has been labeled by many. They don’t see what he is underneath the brooding and speechless man. No one understands him and he doesn’t seem to want anyone to either…until Willow moves to town.
Somehow, she’d gotten under my skin, unto the marrow of my goddamn bones. Her happiness was becoming the air I breathed.
The chemistry between Willow and Isaac is undeniable. It’s there buzzing all around them. Two broken souls that have found one another yet tragically should not…could not…be together. With healing to do and dreams to fulfill Willow and Isaac live in the moment. They are inevitable, drawn together, pulling each other from the depths of their sadness and pain.
Through theater they both find their way out of the dark. They guide each other and give unexpected trust. The Shakespearian theme throughout In Harmony was absolute perfection. The way that Emma Scott weaves Isaac and Willow’s story through that of the play they are performing was pure excellence!
There are characters that you will LOVE in this book – the best friend Angie, Benny the kid next door, that parental figures Martin and Brenda…
There will also be characters that you will HATE in this story…I’ll let you figure that out on your own. Each one of them has such an important role in Willow and Isaac’s lives. They are lucky all around for each and everyone of them, they have shaped their pasts and set their future in to motion or they are simply just there in the here and now to support and love them both.
Be prepared to run the gamut of emotions. My heart is still fluttering and my eyes are still leaking, all in good ways! and always remember… “It’s never too late.” Timing is everything!
Emma Scott writes romances with flawed characters, characters with artistic hearts: builders, poets, and writers of various makes and models. And love always wins. Always.
