Ryley Clarke has grown up with the military in her blood, with both parents serving their country. Ryley knows the risks of being married to the military. But when the unthinkable happens, and her future husband is killed in action, Ryley can barely survive… until Evan’s twin brother, Nate, helps her pick up the pieces.
After serving on a special mission with the military for six years, Evan Archer returns home to find the unthinkable – the love of his life, Ryley Clarke – engaged to his brother, Nate. With Nate on deployment, Evan needs to figure out what happened in his absence, and more importantly, how to win Ryley back from the man he once considered his best friend, but now thinks of as his rival.
What would you do if the love of your life died and then six years later walked back into your life as if nothing had happened?! Here With Me by Heidi McLaughlin is THAT story, the one that will shock you, break your heart while melting it at the same time.
Ryley has moved on with her life, she had to, Evan was gone and she was shattered…there was no other option. She mourned her loss, raised her son, and is ready to get married.
“I’m here because six years ago I lost the love of my life, but now he’s back from the dead, and in a few weeks I’m set to marry my best friend. His brother.”
I could not believe how this all unrolled. Evan comes home unaware that his whole family thinks that he is dead. He is still so deeply in love with Ryley, it’s as if nothing has changed for him, except that nothing is what he expects.
“I want to know how to get my girl back. I miss Ryley like crazy, and I want to know my son.”
It is clear to us how much Ryley still cares for Evan, I mean really….you don’t stop loving someone just because they pass away. I just LOVE how she talks about him.
“It’s how he made me feel. The sun was brighter, The clouds were bigger. The birds even sang louder once I met him. I know not everyone has that experience, but I did. He was like my daily does of life.”
It hurt reading about Evan coming back to all of this. How effed up is it that this all happened. I was appalled by the things that have transpired for him over the past 6 years….I would blow a gasket if I were him!
“Someone did some serious covering up, and it’s costing me my life.”
I’ve never questioned the Navy or my job. I’m proud of what I do, but now I’m second guessing this mission and why it took so long with the extraction.
I enjoyed reading about Evan and Ryley coming to terms with what is happening. The comfort that these two feel around each other speaks volumes to the love that they shared, and still share. Coming together again is easy for them but there is still so much to work through, after all Ryley is engaged….to Evan’s brother (who happens to be away on a mission right now).
“I’m going to prove that you’re still madly in love with me even though we haven’t seen or been with each other in six years. Your body sings for mw, I felt it when I sat down next to you.”
“I know she loves me. I can feel it in the way her body molds to mine. We were made for each other and come hell or high water, she’ll be mine again. I don’t care who I have to hurt along the way to make it happen.”
I was biting my nails throughout this book, waiting for them to decide what to do, waiting for Nate to come back, waiting for that moment where my heart would break….EXCELLENT work keeping this reader on the edge of her seat!!
