From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a PeopleMagazine pick and a “Best Book of the Summer” by Glamour and USA Today—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.
Roxie and Jen’s Review
We just finished one of the most exquisite books we ever read. Eyes are still a bit swollen and red as we sit down to gather our thoughts on One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Jen been a fangirl for a while and this was Roxie’s first adventure into the amazingness of TJR.
Where to even start? How to express everything we felt without giving too much away? How to do justice to this incredible story?
Emma meets Jesse. They fall in love. Magnificent love, full with adventures. They travel the world and create a little piece of heaven in California. Far away from their hometown and the expectations of their families. They are each other’s one true loves and the future they plan is limitless till one day it isn’t. Jesse goes missing and with that Emma loses everything too.
How do you move on from the one you loved all your life? How do you get out from under the cloud of sadness that is debilitating your every move?
Emma moves home. Eventually learns to live with the pain of losing Jesse. Finds herself all over again, falls in love again. Ready to move on when she gets the phone call. Jesse is alive and he is coming home.
Emma faces something unthinkable, her husband is coming home, while she is engaged and in love with another man.
“I don’t think true love means your only love. I thing true love means loving truly.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid did a magnificent job making us feel Emma’s conflict, her heart being shattered over and over again. Is there a choice? A right choice? How do you make a decision when you love two men?
We loved how wonderfully the author showed us Emma’s growth with her family. Especially with her older sister. It was heartwarming to see the changes as they grew older and a bit wiser with years.
You will think after reading the blurb you know what is waiting in between the pages of this book, but trust us you don’t have a clue about the multilayered, emotional journey that you will take if you pick this story up.
This book isn’t not about choices really. It’s about growing and finding yourself. It’s about being loved and love in return. It’s about playing the piano even when there isn’t a piano in the room. It’s a story about a woman who finds one true loves and it is brilliant!!!
