From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers hearts in Fallen Too Far.
When Harlow Manning’s rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan’s room in nothing but his boxer briefs.
Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He’d known about Nan’s reputation, but still he couldn’t resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister—even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow’s eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?
Take A Chance….finally, Grant has his own series!! HOLLA!! Since the day Blaire pulled that damn gun on Grant, I freaking LOVED him!! I could see how sweet and caring he was. And then BOOM!! Nanette!! Dude!! What were you thinking??? I wanna grab your gorgeous wavy hair and pull it out of your head!!! I HATE NAN!!! I want to buy a T shirt that say, I HATE NAN! Who’s with me??
Well let me get to the real important stuff. That would be Grant and Harlow. Ahh Yes, the beautiful Harlow Manning; the quiet, keeps to herself, stays in her room and reads all day type of girl. Why would this type of girl appeal to Grant? Grant is messing around with Nan, the red headed devil in disguise. She just wants a piece of Grant, that’s all. I think she wants a piece of everybody. Grant just needs to be wanted, and Nan, needed him. And she took him; in many different places, but it fulfilled a need in Grant.
Realizing he didn’t want that from her anymore because she’s evil to the core, he turns to Harlow. Sweet Harlow. This is what he needs. So he courts her, they spend time together and I swear he melts me, well he melts Harlow. And they share some absolutely beautiful moments. This is when Harlow really falls for Grant. And its no act because Grant is so taken by her, she’s like no other woman he’s ever met. So innocent, so sweet. With every paragraph I read, every chapter…I fell under Grant’s spell….er Harlow fell under Grant’s spell.
OMG and the things he does to her, to her body, to her heart…HOLY HELL! Um, Grant has quite the dirty mouth. I was a little uncomfortable reading on a public city bus while Grant is pulling on Harlow’s nipples…..
“Does that feel good, pretty girl?
I managed a nod as he began to kiss my neck and squeeze my nipples gently.
“That’s it, baby, arch that back for me.”
Really? Harlow, arch that back baby!! This book is action packed with the hottest sex by far. Grant is superman. And Harlow is learning as she goes. And what a teacher Grant is. Skilled with his mouth, with fingers, his………… Yeah she gets hers “O’s”!!!
I can go on and on here with his dirty mouth, and sexy ways. But the bottom line is, Grant has some explaining to do.
Harlow is forced by Kiro, her father, to go and live with Nan, her half sister for 9 months. Kiro is leaving for his tour and doesn’t want her alone. BAD move Kiro. Throwing Harlow to the wolves. And when she arrives at Nan’s house she walks right into Grant….. in his boxers…Yep….Man-whore…..
Trust me this isn’t the first time in this book that my heart felt tight and I wanted to vomit on site of words alone. I just started off light and fun before. I swear this read for me was more serious, more heart breaking then the others.
He’s hurt Harlow, bad!!! And Nan is at the center of it. Thank god Mase comes to the rescue. Mase is Harlow’s brother and best friend. He’s there for her when she needs a friend and thank god for that. And I LOVE LOVE how he tells off Grant:
“Harlow won’t ever settle for Nan’s seconds. And dude, you’re Nan’s seconds.”
And truthfully, I have never seen this side of Grant before. This vulnerable side, this weak side. Yes…he’s weak. I am so surprised by this. I love Grant. Dude, go get your girl…But no….
He doesn’t want to hurt Harlow. Grant and Rush are so close and they talk in length about his feelings towards Harlow…he’s trying to make sense of it all…..
“I’m scared of her.” There. I said it.
Rush frowned. “You’re scared of her? Harlow? Or are we talking about Nan?
I’m scared of Harlow, of what I could feel for her.”
“You’re afraid you’ll fall in love with her, he said, finally understanding.
I just nodded.
My heart may ache for Harlow now, but Grant is killing me too. You know when a book gives you that feeling deep down in your gut, like you can’t breath? And you need to put the book down for a minute? Those are the feelings I had as a read Take a Chance.
And as hard as Harlow and Grant are hurting because of dumb ass mistakes, Nan still takes the opportunity to be a real bitch. She never lets us. She deserves a freaking Oscar for her role.
See what I’m saying!!! Who says stuff like that?? Jealous bitches that’s who!!
She’s so jealous of Harlow. I would be. If you ask me, Grant is holding onto Harlow’s heart, and not sure what to do with it. He just doesn’t want to hurt her and be hurt in the process. Oh Grant!!! Just take a leap, Take a Chance…on love….real love…..
I cherished all of Abbi’s Rosemary Beach books, but this one, is my favorite. So many twists and turns, so many secrets to be told. I think it was Grant who surprised me the most. His tender heart, the way he opened up for Harlow, this playboy who’s banged more than half the woman in Rosemary Beach is falling for his quiet, beautiful Harlow.
“I can’t stand the idea of you ever hurting because of me. I fucking hate that. I want to make you happy. I wish I’d never been with anyone before you.”
And just when I thought things were all nice and happy. BAM!! Shit goes down…More secrets uncovered. And this is where Trishy Poo unleashes the damn water works. Tears…they kept coming and coming…I was sooo not ready for that. Not one bit. Thanks Abbi for swollen eyes and a broken heart. Just going back and reading those scenes, makes me feel like I am missing a piece of my heart. I left it in Rosemary Beach somewhere. And I want it back damn it.
Well now I can let out a breath. I am done and ready to pick up the pieces again. I suggest all you Schmexy ladies out there one click another of Abbi Glines 5 star reads.
Another day in the life of Rosemary beaches bad boys and babes.
My Interview with Abbi Glines
I was able to chat a bit with Abbi and really pick her brain about this whole Grant/Harlow/Nan business. Check it out below:
Hi Abbi. So excited to chat with you about this crazy triangle you have written for us.
Best to start from the beginning. Grant and Nan. We were introduced to Grant’s character when Blaire pulls her gun on him in Fallen too Far. And that is the moment I fell for Grant. I saw such a goodness in him. And I was soooo surprised when I found out he was sleeping with Nan!!
So my questions is, why Nan?
I don’t know if I should tell ya’ll this, but originally, I was going to fix Grant and Nan up, and then Harlow showed up in Forever Too Far. She wasn’t a planned character, but she stuck around. I also realized everyone would HATE Grant’s book if he ended up with Nan….so that’s that.
I truly thought that after Nan’s boat accident she would soften a bit. And she never did. Like EVER!! And she is even worse in Take a Chance.
I have read about some nasty bitches in lots of books, but not gonna lie, Nan takes the cake Abbi.
You have written some of the most beautiful characters, where did Nanette come from? Any inspiration there?
Nan is loosely based on a character from my younger years; unfortunately, I don’t think that person got any better over the years, either. I’m just keeping it real.
Harlow. I just love her. I love her simply because she is exactly what Nan isn’t. Amazing how Grant could go from having something so strong and sexual with Nan and then totally switch gears to a girl like Harlow. A girl so simple minded, yet so beautiful inside and out.
What was Grant thinking?
What Grant had with Nan was never strong. Grant needed to be needed, and she was filling that void for him. When Harlow came along, he realized that what he had with Nan was extremely shallow and wanted more.
This book was full of heart breaking moments. I couldn’t stop reading for one second, you threw me for a loop with this one Abbi. What are we to expect in book 2, One More Chance? I know you can’t give spoilers. Can you give us something? Will we see more of the other characters in the next book?
We get to see more of Mase because Harlow will end up in Texas….at one point. Where Grant has stressed some readers out in Take A Chance, he makes a big comeback in One More Chance. That’s all I can give you.
My last question is more about the plot. At what point did you come up with the idea of Grant/Nan/Harlow? I know you still have more of their story to write. Do you have it outlined already or are you still mulling it over?
I came up with the Grant/Nan/Harlow triangle when Blair befriended Harlow. I knew she needed to play a bigger part in the series. When she walked into Rush and Blair’s wedding rehearsal, that sealed her fate. As for the rest of the story, yes! – it is outlined. I’m writing it at the moment.
Thanks for having me!
