HOLY Mark!! I make it absolutely no secret that I am in love with this entire series. If I Were You and Being Me are in my absolute must reads section of the blog, I mean crazy crazy good!! I have been anxiously awaiting this novella. I knew that it would be intense and hopefully give us a great look into Mark the days after he learns the truth about Rebecca and that whole mess.
I felt Mark was so vulnerable throughout this story, we always so him as so dominant and controlled that it was really weird for me. Not that I didn’t like it but just that it almost felt like you were reading about someone else. I was always Team Chris, and venehmently despised Mark. I felt his arrogance and his entire persona was just irritating. Don’t get me wrong I love a bad boy, and the rich dominant men are TOTALLY my thing in a book, but I just never really could connect to Mark. It was so amazingly different for me to feel a connection to him.
This is a novella so if your expecting a full size book you will not have that. It gives you just enough to feel for him and then your left wanting a lot more. Mark flys to New York to see his mother who is ill. He gets to the airport not expecting to be picked up by anyone, which is were he meets Crystal Smith. She is beautiful but holy crap is she a true New Yorker.. I LOVE HER!! She is strong and sure as hell isn’t entertaining anything with him. She puts him in his place, tells him what to do I was dying laughing at this whole interaction! Mark finds himself dealing with something he has never dealt with.. the chase.
“She’s a refreshing glass of water when I’m drowning in hell, and, damn it, she smells good, too.”
Crystal is so awesome, I can’t even think of the right adjectives to describe her. I love how she is thoughtful and seems to be able to navigate the man who no one seems to know. Mark is clearly struggling in this novella. His life was literally just tilted on his axis and now he has to deal with a mother he obviously loves very much. I couldn’t believe how much my heart broke for him. Rebecca obviously meant way more to Mark than anyone truly knew and we learned why he was the way he was. Crystal provides Mark with a different slew of emotions and watching it play out was great.
“Oh, please. You have so many rules, your rules have rules. Any woman who dared to date you would need an encyclopedia-sized book to keep up.”
Oh how right you are Crystal!!
I enjoyed watching Mark become a human instead of this controlled man. Of course you can expect the heat because Lisa Renee Jones never disappoints!!
