Maxwell Jameson Trevor, prince of Lilaria, hates his royal role. Despising the limelight, he takes solace in his art studio and steers clear of any drama. But when one of the newly discovered royals passes away, Maxwell’s brother Alex asks him to break the news to the old man’s granddaughter. Though he hates to be the bearer of doom and gloom, he doesn’t want the poor girl to find out from the tabloids. For Maxwell knows all too well how devastating that could be.
Coming from a broken home and modest background, newly ordained Lady Meredith Thysmer has seized her chance to make a better life for herself and her son. She’s not afraid to use her best assets to get what she wants. But when the unpretentious yet devastatingly handsome Max delivers his news, her plans for the future come crashing to a halt. In the challenging days ahead, Max’s compassion, humor, and steadfast loyalty to Meredith and her son win her over. She quickly finds herself doing something she swore would never happen again: falling in love. And yet Maxwell still refuses to completely drop his guard. Somehow Meredith’s got to find a way to seduce this reluctant royal.

Interview With Max
Nichole Chase: Hi Max. It’s nice to see you again.
Max: It’s nice to see you as well.
Nichole Chase: I know you’re not overly fond of interviews so I’ll keep it short.
Max: I never mind talking with you.
Nichole Chase: Oh. Um, I don’t mind talking with you either. Uh. I mean, I always enjoy our chats.
Max: What kind of questions do you have?
Nichole Chase: Right. Questions. Well, you’ve been dubbed the ‘Mysterious Royal’ by a lot of people. Most people know very little about you, except for your amazing art. Is there anything that you’d like for people to know?
Max: For me, I’d say that my art sums up who I am.
Nichole Chase: You do a lot of portraits of other people. There are a lot of famous and influential people featured in your current show. They are mixed in with portraits of homeless people, teachers, and single parents. What was your goal with this project?
Max: I wanted people to walk in there and not know who was famous, who was influential, and who was homeless. When you take away the circumstances of our lives, what are you left with? I want people to think about the idea that underneath designer clothes or grungy second-hand jackets, we’re all human. We all have the same basic needs.
Nichole Chase: I had a chance to walk through last night and I think you accomplished your goal.
Max: Thank you.
Nichole Chase: I could talk about art all day, but I think some of the readers would appreciate it if I moved on to another subject before our time runs out. Are you planning on staying in Lilalaria?
Max: It would seem so.
Nichole Chase: We’re running out of time, so I’m going to do a lightning round of questions. Ready?
Max: Let’s do it.
Nichole Chase: Favorite artist?
Max: That would be like asking you if you have a favorite author. How can you choose? There are so many wonderful ones out there that do awesome things in different ways.
Nichole Chase: Fair. I guess it would be pointless to ask you if you have a favorite color.
Nichole Chase: Do you have any pets?
Max: I have a horse.
Nichole Chase: Do you ride often?
Max: When I have the time. My brother has his falcons and I have Da Vinci.
Nichole Chase: Da Vinci?
Max: *coughs* My horse.
Nichole Chase: Nice name. What do you do in your spare time other than ride Da Vinci?
Max: Lately I’ve been playing a lot of video games lately. *laughs*
Nichole Chase: Are you playing with anyone we would know?
Max: I’m being schooled by Marty, Lady Meredith of Thysmer’s son.
Nichole Chase: Ah. I saw pictures of you two fishing the other day.
Max: Once again, I was being schooled by Marty.
Nichole Chase: And Lady Meredith? Are you two officially dating?
Max: Oh, you know I’m not going to answer that.
Nichole Chase: You can’t blame me for trying. Inquiring minds want to know. It’s the mysterious persona you have going on. You’ve piqued the interest of a lot of people.
Max: I’d hate to ruin all of my hard work.
Nichole Chase: I should get points for trying.
Max: I’d be happy to fill out a score card if you have one.
Nichole Chase: Go on. Get out of here, your highness.
Max: It was nice to see you again, Nichole.
Nichole Chase: You too, Max.
