Suffering from a past full of tragedy, Dahlia London’s soul has been left completely shattered. Happily ever after is a far cry from reality in her world. But, when she is reconnected with her past, the bonds that form are irrefutable.
When River Wilde, lead singer of The Wilde Ones, comes back into Dahlia’s life, the intensity that fires their relationship combined with underlying feelings that have never died lead her to believe she has met her soulmate.
Struggling with confusion as old connections fade and new ones begin, Dahlia’s grief begins to lift–but guilt remains. River wants to be the one to mend all that is torn within her.
But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?
I experienced a myriad of emotions while reading this angsty novel that had me turning the pages fast and furiously. I felt conflicted over the love triangle, felt bad for River, felt heartbroken for Dahlia and I was consumed by the erotic lusty moments. This book also had me screaming OMG by the twist! Connected had me captivated from cover to cover. I felt the love, suspense, devastation and complexity of the deceit as the story unraveled.
I was immediately enraptured by River Wilde’s rocker vibe. He’s the epitome of sex on a stick. He is long and lean and has floppy hair with vibrant green eyes. He has a commanding presence, is hip, tender and very charming. I just love that signature beanie he wears. He’s a dynamite lover and has it bad for the girl that caught his attention that fateful night. He has a living but complicated family that helps keep him grounded. is a pretty cool fictional Book Boyfriend…. In my book.
Dahlia London has endured her share of sadness in life. She lost her parents when she was young. Her father taught her to appreciate music from an early age. She’s full of sass & spunk. She exhibited lots if strength and character as the leading lady in this book.
One fateful night Dahlia London temporarily feels a strong undeniable connection for the bands frontman River at a bar while in college. She knows this is wrong but it feels so right….It’s wrong because she belongs to someone else – Ben. Ben is a boy from her youth whose always been their for her, he’s not only her lover but one of her best friends. Ben has not been completely honest with Dahlia and it has caused her pain. Dahlia feels committed to her relationship with Ben and puts her strong feelings for the singer of the Wild Ones on the back burner but never truly forgets him. Dahlia soon endures a hardship that has her facing life and dealing with a devastating grief. Years later she’s offered an opportunity to get back to what she loves -Interviewing. That fateful night catches up with her when she is once again confronted with those captivating green eyes, strong desires and feelings she once felt for the one and only River Wilde. There are ups and downs that Dahlia must navigate through in her love life and personal life. Luckily she is surrounded by some incredible people Ari and others. When Dahlia and River finally succumb to the attraction that has been long denied sparks fly and passion ignites a love that is unstoppable, intense and beautiful.
“I never imagined I could feel so connected to anyone as much as I feel connected to you. I knew I loved you from the moment I saw you. How could I not? Loving you is as easy as breathing.”
Ben is Dahlia’s long term boyfriend. He’s tall, gorgeous and a talented surfer as well as a journalist. At times in the story he seemed secretive and odd. He truly cares for Dahlia but I’m not sure their connection has intensity and the staying power it needs.
In this story love will be tested, challenged and pushed. Hearts will break and bonds will be tested. Your heart will hurt and maybe shatter. Can one have two soulmates? I’m not sure? But I know who I want Dahlia to be with do you?
“Don’t leave me,” I yell as he walks down the path leading to another life. Turning and glancing at me over his shoulder, his eyes are no longer gleaming their perfect shade of green; they’re cloudy, hazy even. ” I’m not,” he says as he keeps walking. ” you left me, beautiful girl.”
Kim Karr has a flawless yet lovely writing style and a keen knowledge of the Hollywood life. This debut novel had lots tender moments, laced with pain, deceit and HOT sex. I am ready for the sequel Torn. This book did have a cliffhanger that ignites a firestorm of conflict. Beware…..
Rock star River Wilde brought Dahlia London back from the brink of hopelessness with his unwavering love and devotion. But their entangled history is about to test the strength of their relationship
Dahlia was certain she had found true love and met her ‘Once in a Lifetime’ when she reconnected with River. But Dahlia’s world comes crashing down when someone from her past resurfaces, and all of River’s carefully hidden secrets are exposed.
River wants to show Dahlia that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass—it’s about dancing in the rain. But how many times can one broken heart be mended? Will River and Dahlia be able to stay together or will they be torn apart?
In this follow up sequel in The Connected series by Kim Karr relationships are tested, trust is challenged and love is questioned. I felt the frustration, the pain, passion, confusion and affinity from the characters. My heart broke and my emotions were all over the map as the drama unfolded in this romantic novel.
Dahlia London’s character has evolved from the hardships and lessons learned regarding betrayal and trust. These experiences have caused her to strengthen her convictions and confront her problems in her own way. She’s in a precarious predicament. Her fiancé is back from hiding and wants another chance with her. Her other love interest River feels he’s only done what was necessary to protect Dahlia from more pain. She needs to do some self reflecting to see what is best for her.
River Wilde’s life is slowly unraveling before his eyes. His soulmate is struggling with the impact of Ben resurfacing. River is feeling the insecurity in their relationship as Dahlia withdraws to sort her issues out. His band mates need his time and they are getting frustrated. And River gets a bit sidetracked with a co-worker that tries to threaten his relationship.
“I want to believe your love is only for me. That your lips are mine. That your kisses are meant for me. That your body belongs to me.” His arms move to my waist and tighten around me and he presses his hard body against mine. “But when you leave me to see him, it’s hard to know for sure.”
Ben is back from the dead. He wants to sort things out with Dahlia. He proves his unwavering love and pushes hard to get her to see this. He’s a bit lost trying to fit into his old life that he left behind to protect the one he loved. His sacrifices have come at a big cost. Maybe the one he loved!! Is it too late for Ben to win Dahlia Back?? Does he deserve her?
“I stop and stand in front of him, motionless- we are former lovers turned strangers.”
“Relationships are made up of so many different emotions, but the one thing that keeps a relationship strong is love. Can doubt weaken such a strong bond? Not if two people don’t let it- right?”
River and Dahlia are forced to reevaluate their love. What they see is an undeniable bond that is UNBREAKABLE because they are true soulmates.
“A long time ago, I wished for you and now I have you. See… Wishes really do come true even if you tell someone your wish.”
In Torn many relationships are put under the microscope. From the main characters to the supporting characters; they are woven in and have enriched as well as complicated each other’s lives. Kim Karr has created a saga that includes lovers, friends, family, band mates and acquaintances. I look forward to her next installment in a The Connected series.
Kim Karr writes stories that are rich with depth and emotion. The sexual chemistry is intense, steamy and genuine. I love her writing and I’m eager for more!
About the Author
I live in Florida with my husband and four kids. I’ve always had a love for reading books and writing. Being an English major in college, I wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. I went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise my family. I currently work part-time with my husband and full-time embracing one of my biggest passions—writing.
I wear a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of the family. However, I always find time to read. One of my favorite family outings use to be taking my kids to the bookstore or the library. Today, my oldest child is in college and my twins are juniors so they no longer go with me on these outings. And although I don’t need to go to the actual store anymore because I have the greatest device ever invented—a Kindle, I still do. There’s nothing like a paperback. So now my four year old and I make dates out of going to the bookstore–it’s time I love and cherish.
I like to believe in soulmates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. I love to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart. <3
