I’ve been screwed.
It started the day I was conceived.
When I was eleven, life crushed me into grotesque, mangled fragments. I glued the shards of myself into a mosaic fitting of a child. I learned one important thing from that experience.
Controlling your destiny keeps the vultures at bay. Control keeps my life from disintegrating. It keeps my life on the path to the woman I want to be.
Not who they say I am.
As time goes on, life hits and smashes and I take it. Every snide word, every crack in my heart, every self-righteous glance again and again.
It’s my turn to screw.
Your past and your history often define you are and mold who you become.
Becca’s horrible past has made her who she is today. Her mother had a “reputation” and Becca tried so hard to not live in her mother’s shadow. She will do whatever is necessary to not become her.
“I will take care of myself. I will succeed… I am not my mother.”
She is so cautious with her heart and does whatever she can to protect it. She has a goal—knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to reach it. She doesn’t do relationships, commitment, anything that will lose focus in achieving her dream. So when she runs into Zach Moretti, her first love, she will not allow him to interfere with her plan. Having broken her heart years ago, she will not allow herself to fall into his trap.
Zach was always a love em and leave em type of guy. He was a douche, but a life changing event made him see clearly and he knew he needed to change his ways.
“…I took a step back and looked around, and I didn’t like what a saw—whole lot of pussy, whole lot of playing, but nothing real.”
He wants a future with a wife, a family, a white picket fence—the whole nine yards. So when he runs into Becca again, he doesn’t plan on screwing up and letting her go this time.
Too bad Becca isn’t on the same page. She comes up with a master plan to “screw” Zach the way he did to her. Tit for tat. An eye for an eye. Only things don’t always work out the way you want them to.
Zach and Becca are hot together and damn, can Nicki write a hot male lead. He is delicious. I love the way he’d put Becca in her place or bring her back to the present. He is YUMMY! The body, the hair, the eyes, the whole package. YES, please!!
We travel on Zach and Becca’s journey at a second chance. Nicki had you feel so many emotions. My heart hurt for Becca and I just wanted to give her a hug. She wrote a fantastic story that will have you glued to your kindle! Loved it!!!
About the Author
Nicki DeStasi was raised in a small town in Massachusetts. She attended Fitchburg State College and studied Early Childhood Education. As a child, she enjoyed reading, but only recently began doing it again. She has always had an inventive imagination and finally decided to put those ideas on paper for others to enjoy. Worth It will be Nicki’s first self-published book. A few personal facts: Sloth from The Goonies is her third cousin, she acted and stared in several plays throughout high school and college, and she can play four different instruments. Nicki’s philosophy is to appreciate the good things in life. If we didn’t make mistakes and have bad things happen then we wouldn’t know how truly wonderful the good things are. No matter how difficult life is sometimes, if we look to the people that love us, then we can get through them and on to the good stuff.
