I guess this is it, huh? After fourteen years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments and countless letters I’ve written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I’ve always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you’d changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you’d been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.
Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’m sorry it wasn’t me.
To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they’ll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.
When you think of Tara Sivec’s writing, I’m sure you’ve come to expect lots of hilarious antics, crazy characters and just pure fun.I’ve experienced another side of Tara for the second time. The first time was with Watch Over Me that I absolutely adored. So when I heard she’d be writing Fisher’s Light I knew that I was in for another emotional journey. All I can say is she delivered a beautiful, gut wrenching story so real and raw that I cried on and off throughout the entire book. So extremely powerful. Fisher’s Light captured the debilitating effects of PTSD and how one’s life changes so drastically.
Fisher and Lucy are high school sweethearts who are so in love and share a bond that they believe can never be severed. The story takes us through past and present where we fall hard for both of these characters and experience first hand all that they’ve endured.
After the tragic events of September 11th, Fisher follows his heart and heads off to war to fight for our country. Both Fisher and Lucy make promises to each other, the most important being that Fisher will always come back to Lucy.
“I will find my way back to you.”
This story will break you. My tears came frequently and thank God Tara infused much needed humor where you’d find yourself laughing through your tears. You experience firsthand what a sacrifice it is for soldiers who head off to war fighting for freedom while leaving loved ones behind. How selfless these men and women are and the difficult road they travel when they return home leaving a part of who they used to be behind.
The love Fisher and Lucy shared was felt bone deep. You can’t tell where one starts and the other begins. Their connection and love for each other has no boundaries and as you watch their world crumble, you feel their pain and your heart shatters.
This book was beautiful. Tara can write just about anything and I’d read it. I LOVED this one. So emotional—ugly tears and tons of tissues needed. Her writing was incredible. I laughed, cried and ate chocolate thinking I needed a support group the whole time. Do not miss it!!
