Two women. Carly and Tabitha. They each have suffered life-altering events that have left them both traumatically damaged.
Carly Sloan’s life was perfect until her security and innocence was torn from her. The vast repercussions from horrific events threaten to destroy her stability and her chances for a happily ever after. Kyle Finnegan comes into Carly’s life at the height of her turmoil. Can he help her find what she desires most?
Tabitha Fletcher has constantly suffered from a very young age. She has been hiding from her past, which was full of sadness, loss and abuse. She has been so brutally damaged that she has very little hope for redemption. The revolving door of men only leads her deeper into misery.
What circumstance brings these two women together and can they help each other heal? And will they each find what they need?
“Dear Emily” is the first book in the “Forever Family” series.
This book is not suitable for young readers. It is intended for mature adults only (18+). It contains strong language, adult/sexual situations, non-consensual sex and some violence.
Dear Emily is a beautiful story about love, lust, family, and the tragedies endured by Carly and Tabitha, our leading ladies. Trudy Stiles has woven the lives of these women, both past and present, in such an amazing way. Carly and Tabitha have never met before and yet I found that there are so many similarities between the two of them. They both care deeply for a child that they have never met but for different reasons. The two have also overcome abusive pasts that have brought them where they are today.
Carly has been through some hard times, she was terrorized by a fellow student in college. This incident would change her life forever. I felt so bad for Carly, I remember what it was like to be a freshman in college and I don’t even want to think about what she had to endure at that young age. She was lucky enough to have people in her life that cared for her so much that they helped her through her struggles.
“Carly, you are OK. You are going to be OK. I won’t ever let this happen again. I promise you that I’m not leaving your side again.”
She meets Kyle, a TA for one of her classes. He becomes more to her and he is just the sweetest guy ever!! He is patient and understanding and sexy to boot ;) Kyle knows what happened to Carly and he respects her so much.
“Shh, Carly, it’s OK. You’re not ready for more. We’re not ready for more. I just needed to kiss you.”
“I’ve never needed to feel like this before. You’ve turned me upside down, Carly. Inside out.”
Carly and Kyle are one of the most perfect couples I’ve read about. They have a mutual respect for each other and their love is so strong. Their love and life together has led them to Tabitha…
Tabitha is hard on herself…
“I’m a depressed, pathetic, damaged, and distraught nineteen year old that has no hope”
She has a history that I can’t even imagine having to go through. Tabitha has had to fight and struggle to get where she is today. She doesn’t feel like she deserves to be loved because of what she has been through. Even when her boyfriend (and maybe the father of her baby) tells her…
“I’ll still love you tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. I’m not going anywhere Tabby. Ever. I’m here for you as long as it takes for you to be fully here with me.”
Tabitha does care for him, just not in the same way that he does for her.
“Something about Seth makes me want to kick off my shoes and just curl up next to him. He seems soothing and protective. Not judging.”
“Tabby, I don’t know what has caused you to withdraw into yourself, but you have to know that I’m here for you. I’m drawn to you and can practically feel your pain. And I can tell that we need each other.”
What do all of these people mean to each other, how will their lives be intertwined? Tabitha, Seth, Alex, Carly and Kyle all play intricate roles in each others lives without knowing it. I cannot say enough good things about this story. Trudy Stiles wrote a wonderful story and handled delicate situations in a very respectful way which I think is amazing. She has created characters that you can empathize with, you just want to reach into the book and hug them and comfort them. There were a couple of characters that I would have even reached in and beat the ever-loving crap out of. The emotions that were evoked were so real. I messaged Trudy as soon as I was done reading because I was so impressed. This is Book 1 in the Forever Family series, Book 2 will be released early next year.
