To Samantha Christensen, Lucas Hunter was always the guy—the sexy, smart and unattainable man she pined for throughout college. To Lucas, she was a treasured friend, a younger sister he felt the need to protect. She had a choice—to wait and hope, or to settle.
When they meet again years later, Lucas looks at Samantha and sees a woman he wants—even though she’s not free to take. As they renew their friendship he finds he’s falling hard, and can’t accept any less than all of her.
Samantha realizes there’s hope with Lucas. Will she finally have a chance to be happy with the man she’s always loved, or will obligations and insecurities stand in their way?
Can Samantha and Lucas convince each other that they belong together? That it was Always You?
Sometimes in life you settle. You don’t think you’re worthy. You go along with a relationship because you feel that may be your only chance for happiness. Then you’re stuck.
That’s the way it is for Samantha. At 18, she fell hard for her best friend’s cousin, Lucas Hunter. He is hot, swoonworthy and always seems to have a beautiful woman on his arm. He is out of her reach, so she gushes from afar.
According to Sam, he is way out of her league. She tries to put him out of her head and winds up meeting Marc. They get married and have a daughter, Bella, who I absolutely adored. She’s stuck in a loveless marriage, but doesn’t think there is deserving of much more than that.
Ten years later, Lucas reaches out to Sam on Facebook. God, I love Facebook. They meet to catch up and sparks fly—more like explosions. She’s just as attracted to him now as she was back in the day.
“You’re my favorite part of every day. That’s my gift…”
Sam is frightened and awestruck at the same time. They start spending time together, and their feelings for one another can’t be denied. She tries to shut her feelings off, but it’s impossible. He is just, GAH, you can’t help but fall in love with him.
“I know I’m not supposed to think about you all day long. I know I’m not supposed to want to talk to you every minute of the day, or touch you, or kiss you. But, fuck… That’s all I ever want to do, Sam.”
What can I say about these characters? Lucas. He was perfect. He made Sam feel special and worthy of love. Talk about delicious!!! My heart hurt for Sam. Marc is a total douche and treats her like crap. What an asshat. I HATED him!!! I just wanted to smack him in the head with a freakin bat.
The chemistry between Lucas and Sam was off the charts hot. Many times throughout the book I had to fan myself with my kindle.
This is a great story about second chances and finding love that will warm your heart. Stephanie did a great job with her debut novel and I can’t wait to read more from her.
