Perfection. We all strive for it, but what happens when the desire to be perfect consumes you?
What happens when the need to bury your mistakes blinds you?
Melanie Crane has always been the perfect daughter, friend, student – she’s been perfect at everything, in fact. But when she lets her insecurities, the ones that she keeps hidden from
everyone, get the best of her, she falters in her pursuit of perfection. Melanie crumples under the pressure and buries her pain. Numbed by sadness and guilt, she is determined never to let anyone find out how broken she really is.
Bryan Mahoney may appear to have everything in order. He’s charming, witty and completely swoon-worthy. In short, Bryan has life all figured out, but appearances can be deceiving. When the landscape of Bryan’s family changes in an instant, he’s left to pick up the pieces.
Not all bruises leave a mark. Now, weary and afraid, Melanie and Bryan must find a way to let love heal their broken and jaded hearts.
Let Love Heal is Book #3 in Melissa Collins’ Love Series. It can be read as a standalone however you get a better feel for her friends characters if you read Let Love In and Let Love Stay, I enjoyed them both!
This story is about Melanie and Bryan. It takes place over a little more than a year of their lives and is not a simple love story. From the first two books we know that Melanie and Bryan are dating however we do not know much about their relationship. Here we learn how they came together and how their love developed and crashed.
Melanie struggles with her self image, being a curvy size 16 with curly red hair she does not think that she is beautiful. To compensate for these feelings she strives to be perfect in every other aspect of her life as a daughter, a friend, and a student. She is such a sweet and innocent girl. I could easily identify with her personality. I felt like I could really identify with her and relate to her issues, reading about someone with a body that isn’t “perfect” was a nice change for me, as I have struggled with my weight over the years.
Then we have Bryan….the sexy computer geek that plays soccer – YUMMY! Talk about a sweetheart, he was genuinely a nice guy. When he meets Melanie you can tell that he likes her. They will be working together (conveniently ;) ) and you can feel the attraction. Bryan flirts with Melanie and she flirts back, I mean who wouldn’t flirt with him….he’s so sexy!
We start to see many of Melanie’s insecurities, she flirts with him but doesn’t feel that the feelings are mutual. She is always down on herself and she just can’t understand what Bryan sees in her. I felt so bad because here was this awesome guy, who tells it like it is, and she just cannot get over the fact that she feels he doesn’t really want her. When she finally agrees to go out with him their relationship blossoms. I still got the feeling that it was all surreal for. It wasn’t until their “first time” that I think she realized what he felt for her. Melanie thinks to herself as things are progressing…
“Yep, he wants me. Unless that’s something else pressing into my back and I highly doubt there’s a banana in his pocket.”
Well that’s one way to put it! These two were perfect for each other, it just took Melanie so long to realize it. If it wasn’t her lack of self esteem that got in their way it was an ex-girlfriend of Bryan’s who gave Melanie nothing but trouble.
After a few months things seem to go down hill. Melanie’s insecurities lead her to do the unthinkable and she feels so guilty. She hides her guilt on the inside but hates herself for it.
“This self-loathing, indecisive, evasive version of me is hideous.”
Melanie and Bryan have a long road ahead of them when the unthinkable happens. What will this mean for their relationship, can they overcome what has been done? Follow the story of these two and find out what love, determination, and patience can do for them.
“Anything worth doing in your life will take time. So be patient, but always persevere.”
