Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black…
For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He’s a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn’t care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.
23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn’t realize how much her father’s indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn’t one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it’s an absence of moments. She’s like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other… to fill the void that her father left in her.
Until she meets Dominic.
After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.
Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated… they’ve learned a priceless lesson.
Sometimes, before we fall… we fly
Before We Fall is one of those reads that draws you in right from the first chapter; more like the first page. Um, more like the first sentence; “I like to watch.” I bet you do! Um, okay totally reading on.
I have to say, I was not familiar with Courtney Cole and her series. And considering I am reviewing Before We Fall as Book 3 in her series, not having read the others I assumed I would be lost. Thankfully these books can be read as standalones. See below for buy links for the rest of the series. (which I plan on reading as fast as I can)
The story follows Dominic and Jacey. Dominic Kinkaide is a famous actor in Hollywood. He’s hot, with his green eyes and dark hair and he’s good at what he does, which is acting, and watching…watching what you wonder? Oh you guessed it. He’s a freak. Well at least he thinks he is. Well I suppose if you love to watch people have sex, and whip eachother, and fun things like that you might consider yourself kinky. I would for sure consider him kinky. HMM, got your attention. Good, because that’s how the first chapter rolls. Dominic isn’t the only famous one in his family. Both his brothers are famous rockstars and his father is in the music industry. His brother Sin throws the wildest sex parties. Everybody whose anybody wants an invite. Me Me!!
And at this crazy party is where Dominic meets Jacey Vincent. Jacey is a waitress, a sexy waitress I might add; all blonde hair and legs. Unfortunately, these two gets caught up in a most unfortunate incident; cops, drugs; arrests. Yeah, good times. And now they are forced to spend time together under the most interesting circumstances.
Dominic and Jacey don’t have an easy go at it though. He’s so closed off. Dominic has so much in his past that he keeps hidden and locked away. Something that happened on the night of his high school graduation. A terrible thing, that haunts him, and has torn apart friendships, and family. And will refuse to talk about it. So instead, he’s cold as ice. Very detached. And enigma to his friends and to Jacey.
Clearly they both have a connection, but how the heck can Jacey attempt to break down his walls, when they are friggin higher than high and harder than cement?
Dominic is so taken by Jacey, that his walls starts to fall a bit, and he attempts to let her in. Maybe…..
“I’m just as curious about my feelings regarding her as I am about Jacey herself. I do not like getting close to people. I do not like giving them the opportunity to hurt me, use me, or exploit me.”
Sad that Dominic must feel this way, because he has no idea what he’s missing out on; hung up on feelings from the past.
The story takes you on a roller coaster. Between Dominic and his hot/cold personality and Jacey trying not to fall for this man; this toxic man, who is exploding hotness, and touches her in ways that make her panties wet. (Yes, that’s what I said!!! I seriously felt like at times I would combust while reading. The sex in this book, and kinkiness and all those other fun things that go with it, is just out of hand. This chick can really write some hot and kinky schmexy stuff. Hells yeah!!!!!!!! Dominic has this naughty, forbidden side to him. Its dark, and its freaking taboo and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Are you wet?
Can I check?
If you only knew how kinky he can get!
The electricity and energy between these two is explosive. The secrets and lies though, they just get in the way. The past, is like a weight on him, on her. Tearing them up.
Honestly, this book is such an emotional read. There are tears, lots of them. And aching hearts, and tightness in the chest. You feel all of that. These characters are so well written. You instantly feel their connection, their bond, their emotions, their pain, their suffering. And just when you thought the tears are done and they couldn’t get more damaged, there are more tears.
I started this book at 1pm and finished it at midnight. And when I finally finished and put this book to bed, I was drained, emotionally. This whole entire story comes full circle. The writing was just phenomenal and I didn’t want it to end. I fully intend on reading the rest of the series.
I love love love these characters. Jacey is really trying to get herself together in this book, and does such a great job of showing her strength. But Jacey has her own issues and internal battles, and needs to be strong, and not have Dominic and his toxic ways pulling her the wrong way. Problem is, she still has to deal with Dominic because her feelings for him are real now and this boy is lost, and afraid, and he needs saving.
“You can’t give me what I need, Dominic. So what’s the point? I can’t settle for less. Not anymore.”
Will Jacey be there to save him? Will she be able to show him how to fly, before he falls?
I suggest you read this one and the rest of the series. It really is an unforgettable story, full of love, and hate, and anger, and hurt. Yes sounds sad, but seriously, I would NOT steer you wrong. Click and buy!

About the Author
Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could.
She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds.
Every Last Kiss is her debut novel and she followed it with the rest of The Bloodstone Saga (Every Last Kiss, Fated, With My Last Breath and My Tattered Bonds).
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
