Toe-curling? Check. Sheet-twisting? Check. But is that enough for a second chance?
Jack: I’m pretty much as tough as they come. But when a woman comes to me in tears, I’m jelly. Scratch that—when Maddie Adams comes to me in tears, I’m jelly. That’s how we ended up making our incredible son five years ago, and that’s why I practically beg her to move in with me when she’s in a tight spot. Of course, the last time I got the chance to be the hero, I let her down, but I’m not making the same mistake twice. This time, I’m going to be the man she deserves—and then I’m going to lay every ounce of sexy on her until she lets me back into her heart.
Maddie: Jack Parker is hot, and he knows it. What he’s not is a family man, something this single mom had to learn the hard way. Still, moving into his place until I get back on my feet makes all kinds of sense. He’s an old friend. He’s, ahem, the father of my child. And let’s face it, now that I’ve just been colossally dumped, we’ve got nowhere else to go. The truth is, I never could resist Jack. Living under the same roof puts dirty thoughts in my head. And when my brilliant plan backfires, my whole body is begging for a do-over. . . .
Where are my second chance romance fans?! This one will be right up your alley!! Jack and Maddie have been wound together, from childhood, to adulthood, into parenthood and just about everywhere in between.
Jack Parker….can we say player? His life consists of hanging with the guys, being surrounded by women and having one night stands. Oh, and occasionally he sees his son, Gabe. Jack is adamant about who he is and what his future holds, and that is not much more than what I just described.
I’m a bad man. I you haven’t realized that by now, I’m not doing a good job of telling this story.
Maddie…single mom extraordinaire. She has been dealt a pretty crappy hand however she seems to be holding it all together, until it falls apart and she finds herself at Jack’s door. This woman is direct and basically tells it like it is, she calls Jack out on his crap (most of the time) and she knows that ultimately she needs to do what is best for her and Gabe.
“No matter how much hurt and heartbreak he’s caused me, the connection between us, the sense that with a touch or a few words he can smooth away anything awful in the world, has never gone away.”
Jack and Maddie’s relationship has evolved as well as taken steps backward so much over the years. They start out as childhood friends and things and slowly over the years things change, sometimes for the better and sometimes not so much. They reconnect in a way that neither one ever expected and it has the potential to fail dramatically.
I can’t risk damaging my friendship with Jack over sex.
Maddie and Jack both tell us bits and pieces of their past from their own POVs. You really get a sense of who they were years ago and how it has shaped them as the individuals they are today.
Jack ~ …she can turn me upside down faster than anyone.
Maddie ~ I’ve felt myself flipping a little farther down a slope whose shape I know and whose pull I’ve never been able to resist.
These two are meant for each other, it is easy to see that. It just takes them both time to figure it out. They have demons to overcome and truths to uncover. Watching them on this journey, with their son by their side, will make you laugh, cry, swoon and everything in between.
“Because Mommy has gravity.” I take one of her hands and dance her around in a circle. She gives me a you’re crazy look, but she’s smily. “I am her orbit. She is pulling me in.”
