When a gorgeous young dancer walks through his door, a strip club owner must decide whether to follow his rules or his heart in the third novel by the author of One Tiny Lie and Ten Tiny Breaths.
Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.
Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can’t get distracted by romance.
Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.
Who knew a story about a stripper and a strip club owner could be so damn romantic? I certainly didn’t, but I soooo loved this read. It was a drama infested and a sexy as hell rollercoaster ride right from chapter one that I totally COULD.NOT.PUT.DOWN. kind of book.
We meet Charlie, the gorgeous twenty something year old that starts a job at Penny’s strip club in Miami as a dancer. She has recently relocated from New York at her step-father, Sam’s insistence because of the “family business”. Charlie is a drug runner for Sam; she typically meets Sam’s “friends” in hotels, drops off drugs and picks up the money because she looks like the girl next door.
And then we meet, Cain…oh, the yummy, yummy Cain. He is the panty dropping, hot as hell strip club owner.
“I don’t fuck my staff. Ever. I’m here to help them get on their feet and away from the sex trade, not drag them down further by being a sleazy boss who treats them like whores.”
Cain never watches the dancers at his club, not only are they his friends and family, but he has his rules that he never goes against. He stays in his office most nights until that is he starts watching Charlie perform.
“Her eyes were on me the second she stalked out. And they kept stealing passes on her way around, sliding over mine intimately, as if sharing a secret. My dick told me that was all for me. ”
Ummm, WOW!!! But can Cain stop going to watch Charlie perform six nights a week, exactly at 11pm each night…hell no he can’t! Cain thinks her dancing is all for him and Charlie can’t stop dancing for him because it makes stripping so much easier to endure. She needs this money so that she can get away from the drugs and from Sam. Charlie wants to run away and change her appearance as well as heridentity so she cannot be found by Sam or his goons.
“How are you enjoying the show,” Charlie asks.
It’s quite the game you are playing, Charlie.
And do you like playing it, Cain?
Yes, I do. Too much, Cain says.”
What sexual tension these two have and it totally had me squirming in my seat most of the book. But it was quite the buzzkill when Sam finally finds out about Charlie and Cain dating after an almost botched drug deal that left Charlie saying she was done with the business. She had to leave the city and her job in order to protect Cain or so she thought.
What Charlie doesn’t know is that her sex God boyfriend can totally handle himself in such a totally bad ass way. So all in all ladies, this was such an on your seat, can’t wait to the next chapter to find out what happens read. GO.READ.IT.NOW. you will not at all be disappointed.
