Forever is a heartbeat away . . .
Kerris Moreton knows how to make things work. Bounced from foster home to foster home as a kid, she adapted; when opportunity arose, she thrived. Now, about to open her own business and accept a marriage proposal, Kerris is ready to build the life she’s always wanted. The only thing missing? A passionate connection with her would-be fiancé, Cam. Kerris wants to believe that sparks are overrated-until Walsh Bennett lights her up like the Fourth of July.
. . . but what about love?
As one of the East Coast’s most eligible bachelors, Walsh enjoys financial independence, fulfilling work with his family’s nonprofit, and plenty of female attention. But lately he’s been distracted by the one woman he can’t have. Lovely to look at and even sweeter to know, Kerris is the soul mate Walsh never thought he would find. The problem is, his best friend found her first . . .
When You Are Mine by Kennedy Ryan is a riveting story about what you could consider a love triangle. Kerris grew up as an orphan, having been abandoned by her mother as an infant. Cam was also orphaned but only after his drug addict mother screwed up big enough for him to be taken away when he was a young boy. Walsh is the son of his philanthropist mother and business mogul father.
Kerris and Cam are the picture perfect couple on the outside. They come from the same background and are working hard to better themselves and make a life that they can be proud of. Walsh is Cam’s best friend, the moment he meets Kerris their whole world is shifted on its axis.
He watched her with the focus of a jaguar considering a particularly scrumptious prey. That look should have frightened her, but it wasn’t fear unfurling inside. She didn’t know this feeling, but she was certain she had never felt it before.
Walsh has to quickly come up with a mantra to remind himself of the position they were all in… “Cam’s girl.” Walsh was drawn to the kind and caring person that Kerris is. He struggled with the feelings he was having toward this girl….something that he never experienced in his playboy bachelorhood.
After spending time together with the sexual tension building, Kerris finally starts to break down…
…the ice had cracked, and she was rushing water threatening to overflow her banks. The passion she had believed was a myth, she now craved.
Over the course of several months Kerris and Walsh continue to think about each other. Absence makes the heart grow fonder right?? So can they just forget the pull that they seem to have to one another? Walsh is such a sweetheart, I loved him from the beginning of this book. He isn’t alpha male pushy, he speaks to Kerris in such a gentle way….heart melting words…
“What would you call an orchid that sprang up out of thin air?” He leaned forward to look into her wyes, so close she could feel his breath on her own lips. “A flower that had no soil, no roots, the worst conditions to grow in, but just sprouted out of thin air, beautiful and exotic and perfect.”
I felt torn throughout this whole story. I knew what I wanted her Kerris and my heart just kept weeping for her. Kerris has her future all mapped out….what she is supposed to have, what she deserves, how she feels. There is just no changing her mind yet we still find her trying to convince herself that she is making the right choice.
“The world was at his feet; he was a charmed prince oblivious to the void she and Cam had lived with their entire lives.” This is right. This is right. This is right.
Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was shocked with the direction this story took. Walsh and Kerris seems like the right choice, but so does Cam and Kerris. What will it be? Who will she be with…forever…
When You Are Mine is book #1 in The Bennetts series, a series which I plan on continuing to read!! Be sure to meet these 3 ASAP, you won’t regret it!!
