~A Blackstone Affair, Historical Prequel~ If you’ve read my contemporary series, you know all about Ethan Blackstone and his American girl, Brynne. The Passion of Darius is a part of their story.
‘Ti amo, mia cara’
The fine art of persuasion.
Darius Rourke and his burning passion for a woman. The gentle Marianne…as beautiful as she is mysterious.
When presented with an opportunity to make her his bride, Darius takes it, and knows Marianne will finally belong only to him. Or will she?
Marianne carries a secret. Something she believes will prevent her from ever being worthy to be loved by any man—even the masterful Darius, despite the fact he captivates her utterly.
A look… A caress… A kiss… A brooding sensuality. A lushly passionate tale of lovers entangled in the discovery of each other’s sins and secrets. As Darius and Marianne embark upon a journey together, they will find that learning to command is just as important as learning to surrender.
A man who knows what he wants…
A woman who needs him in order to know her worth…
‘Ti amo, mia cara’
The Passion of Darius, my first ever Historical Romance. And who better than Raine Miller to begin with. This was my first Raine Miller story actually…two firsts here and what a way to kick it off.
Before I discuss The Passion of Darius, let me begin by saying that it is very reminiscent of the old movies and how they actually talk. Raine really nailed it. For once its so nice to take a break from Contemporary Romance and step away, and back into time…time when chivalry actually held water, and a kiss on the cheek meant more…I honestly fell in love with this story from the beginning and tore through this book, loving every word.
This story takes place on the Someret Coast, England. Raine does such a beautiful job of giving us the proper visuals. The way in which she describes the homes, and the surrounding greens, the sea…all of it…breathtaking.
We meet Darius Rourke, a true gentleman, well endowed, in every sense of the word. Darius is very captivating from the start; very persistent, commanding and dominate; smart and sexy. Any woman would want Darius for their husband; the man has wealth and property. The kind of gentleman you want to marry. And he’s ready to marry…But he only has eyes for one woman….
Marianne George. And she’s beautiful and innocent; younger than Darius but he did not care. Darius looked at Marianne as perfection in his eyes and had for many years. We come to find out that Darius has been captivated by Marianne since she was very young and for years longed for her affections. Now, he has the opportunity to make her his.
Marianne takes care of her father. They are alone; her mother died and her father was left to become a drinker and an excessive gambler, his debts are mounting up. They are set to lose their house and belongings. The laws in England are as such; you owe debt you go to jail. Poor Marianne would be subjected to this new lifestyle. A horrible lifestyle. But Darius swoops in with a proposition; Marry Him! He will pay off their debt, but she must be his wife. Be his. Marianne is so uncomfortable with this decision. She doesn’t know Darius and is quite intimidated by him. Hell, I am intimidated by him. But he has this way of luring her in; a seductive way.
Already I feel for Marianne. She does not want this marriage. She feels trapped. But strangely enough feels this pull towards him, but for some reason she is denying it. Its almost painful to listen to her try and deny him. She has secrets and these secrets keep her closed off and scared to move on with Darius. Marianne has the weight of the world on her shoulders and she bares it alone. Her father having to face prison b/c of his debt; her mother’s death; this man she speaks of, Jonathan, never coming back for her. She’s alone.
But there is something about Darius…he’s so persuasive…it’s such a turn on. He was seducing her with his words…and actions…the man could convince you to commit murder with one look alone…he’s beautiful…commanding.
In such a short period of time, these two fall in love. Raine Miller wrote some beautiful and passionate love scenes I will tell you that.
There is something so hot and so sexy, listening to Darius talk Marianne through all their love making. She’s so unsure, so nervous about the unknown, of what Darius will do to her body. His words are dominating; yet they free her. This one scene is a perfect example of how Darius needs and MUST have her body. He tells her what she must do, and she does it; she listens to his demands. And in turn receives the best prize….Darius and his tongue. My God, the whole scene is so beautiful, so sensual, so insanely hot and that is what turned me the fuck on. As Raine put it…I got my “historical kink on.”
“Open your legs. I want to see you…and I want to taste you.”
She flung her face to the side and shook it. “I cannot do that,” she mumbled, shaking her head some more.
“Yes you can…and you will, Marianne.” He turned her face from the side, forcing her to look at him once more. “Do it. Open.”
He sat back and waited.
“You’re going to be beautiful, and I want to see all of you.”
The silence in the room grew thunderingly loud as he waited.
“Marianne, you want to do this. I know you do. You want to open yourself up for me. You will do it…for me.”
And she acquiesces. Smart lady, because he gives her pleasure that she’s never known. He lives to please her, to love her, to fuck her, to make her come. This man literally brings her to tears just listening to his declarations of love; love for her, love for her body, and love for her soul.
I speak of Darius a lot, but make no mistake Marianne is an amazing woman, so strong and yet so haunted by secrets she keeps from him.
I truly enjoyed watching Marianne evolve from this broken, closed off girl to a strong, sexy woman. A woman comfortable to give herself to this man.
I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone and decided to read something different. I encourage all of you ladies to follow my lead and read this love story that will take you away…sailing away to the Coast of Somerset, England where you will fall in love with Darius and Marianne.
Raine Miller is now a new FAV of mine. I am on my way to completing every master piece she has written and will write. Especially these historical romance novels.
About Raine Miller
Raine Miller has been reading romance novels since she picked up that first Barbara Cartland book at the tender age of thirteen. And it’s a safe bet she’ll never stop, because now she writes them too! Granted Raine’s stories are edgy enough to turn Ms. Cartland in her grave, but to her way of thinking, a hot, sexy hero never goes out of fashion. A part-time teacher and writer of sexy romance stories every other chance she gets pretty much fills her days. She has a handsome prince of a husband, and two brilliant sons to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. Her sons know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any, thank God! Raine loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books.
