Once upon a time, there was a girl who stopped believing in fairy tales after her innocence was stolen.
Morgan Myers is tired. So damn tired. Most people either push her around or brush her off, and she’s not putting up with it anymore. Determined to reclaim the life that had been stolen from her, she puts her trust in the last person she ever expected to: the notorious they call Scar. Morgan sees a side of him that few people seem to know—the man, not the myth. Lorenzo. And what she sees, she likes, a lot more than she thought she would.
But fairy tales aren’t real, as life likes to remind her. Some dragons, you just can’t slay, no matter how hard you fight them. And when hers comes back around, breathing fire, she’s forced to face some unimaginable horrors. But there’s a white knight in combat boots out there that isn’t afraid of monsters.
You see, it’s impossible to be afraid of something you see every day in the mirror.
Roxie and Jen’s Review
Everyone wants a fairy tale. The prince coming to rescue you on the white horse and leading you into the sunset—to the house with the white picket fence where the couple lives happily ever after. It would be boring for us if there weren’t some troubles along the way. But DAMN, J.M. Darhower puts your heart through the ringer with Grievous, the conclusion of the Scarlet Scars book.
We’re gonna stop right here and remind you that if you haven’t read Menace, book 1 in the series, you need to get on that ASAP! This review may contain spoilers for those of you who haven’t read book 1, so fair warning.
Oh what a fucking ride we took. Our stomachs were in knots as we turned the pages as we learned the fate of these characters we fell for. There was sweet and sexy. And there was ugly and heartbreaking as Scarlet fights her way back to her life. J.M. Darhower give us a perfect Mafia tale . Some of it was ruthless and dark and at times we were almost scared to turn the pages. Scared to see what would coming next. We held our breaths at the brutality of it all, yet there was no way to stop.
“Crazy gets shit done, Scarlet.”
Lorenzo and Scarlet met each other and changed each other’s lives tremendously. She was the light to his dark. He was the healing to her brokenness. Their journey is filled with bumps and ugliness yet there is always hope.
“It does the kind of thing to my chest that makes me feel uncomfortable—the squeezing, tightening, pitter-pattering bullshit. Ugh, knock it off, heart. You’ve got no business reacting to him.”
We fell in love with Lorenzo in Menace and in Grievous we just fell a little harder. His is such a unique hero. Not easy to love but once you get to know him it’s hard to not to swoon.
Scarlet sigh, this girl. So broke. Been through so much and yet she never gives up. Never breaks down. Her strength has no limits.
If you loved book one, you will love book 2 even more!! J.M. never disappoints when it comes to her Mafia books. You’ll experience the bad and ugly side but left with so much satisfaction in the end.
