Julianne Becker is desperately in love with her boss, Nick Matthews. She has daydreamed about him since the day she first met him a year earlier, but she is firmly stuck in the friend-zone until New Year’s Eve, when the game completely changes and she finds out how Nick really feels about her. They embark on a sexy affair that’s everything Julianne ever dreamed of… except she can’t tell anyone about it. What will happen if anyone finds out about their secret relationship? And how will her lifelong best friend, Travis Miller, react when Julianne begins a relationship with someone who isn’t him?
How He Really Feels is a novel that explores relationships and love between coworkers and friends. It contains some adult situations and is intended for mature readers.
Nothing good can ever come from an office romance, or so you would think. Julianne found “the one” only he didn’t know it yet. From the moment she met Nick, her new boss, she knew that she had to have him. Julianne was a sweet girl who playfully flirts and gets close to Nick without being obvious. She knows that they can’t be together because of their situation. Julianne also thinks that there is no way that he could even want her, he is so gorgeous he can have anybody that he wants.
Over the course of a year they become friendly and ultimately stuck in the friend zone, that is until the event that changes everything. Nick and Julianne finally confess their feelings for each other. It’s just too bad they can’t….tell….ANYONE without risking their jobs. How much does that suck?! They were adorable together, sneaking moments and being sweet. They know so much about each other already that they are able to be comfortable in their new relationship. Nick confesses…
“I started drinking coffee because I knew you went to the kitchen every morning to get a cup. And going to the kitchen meant that I would have a moment with you just you, to look at you, to talk with you, just to be with you.”
…and my heart melted!! Nick is really a sweet guy, he was always doing something romantic for Julianne. Too bad Julianne can’t talk to anyone about it (this seems to be her ongoing theme/pity party) because she works with two of her best friends and her other best friend (Travis) is in love with her!
As with most relationships that we read about there is trouble in paradise that separates Nick and Julianne, I was heartbroken and I LOATHED Nick. I will use one of our favorite terms here…he was a twatwaffle! It was one of those situations where I wanted to strangle him through my Kindle.
I began coming up with my own theories on what had happened…I just couldn’t accept what had gone down and neither could Julianne. I wanted to go to her and hug her and tell her it would all be alright. I was suspicious of everyone…did someone find out and tell the boss? Was someone jealous and trying to pull them apart? I just didn’t know.
My heart was able to be set at ease, I finally thought they were going to work things out. Nick tells Julianne…
“I knew from the beginning, but the fact that I had this….this reminder of you…just staring me in the face; well, it told me that I was a fucking idiot for letting you go. And I knew right then that I had to win you back.”
I will never look at a jar of chunky peanut butter again without thinking of Nick and Julianne. It’s the little things in a relationship that make them special. I was rooting for these two, they seemed to have a very special bond and a wonderful love. Read How He Really Feels and warm your heart with this beautiful story.
