For the past eight years I haven’t been living, just … Existing.
The pain, the guilt, and the shame I carry have been locked away deep inside me for so long that it’s impenetrable, until him. Until Connor Reeves.
With a sexy smile and seductive eyes, the bad boy rocker walked right into my life without warning, and now the walls I built that hid all of my grief for so long are now crumbling at my feet.
Now I am left wondering if it’s possible that just as life can cause pain, it can also heal wounds in a heartbeat.
“He smells like home. That’s the only way I can describe it. Connor makes me want to forget the past and move on to my future. He makes me want to live my life. I want to give myself to him, body, and soul; he already has my heart.” Lynae has been existing the past 8 years. She has suffered a tumultuous event in her life back when she was only 14 years old and this has caused her to build up her walls to others, mainly men and it is the bad boy rocker that is dead set on crumbling these walls down so that she can love and live again.
This book was a great read for me. It was a book that has you captured at the prologue. It deals with real life emotions and situations. After being holed up for the 8 years, only living to work, eat and sleep, Lynae is dragged out to see the band Shameful Regret by her 2 besties, Gabbie and Michelle. Little did she know the lead singer of this band would change her life.
“Being in crowds like this makes me uncomfortable; I don’t want to be in a dark enclosed space, it brings back too many memories for me. A chance to lose myself in some new music for a few hours does appeal to me though.”
“He knows he’s sexy, and he uses that to get the women worked into a frenzy. The looks he throws out at the crowd have all the women screaming and vying for his attention.”
It is a whirlwind relationship that is created when these two get together, but is it based on the truth or are they still both facing their demons from the past.
“I still can’t explain why I feel so safe around him. Usually, anytime someone other than Daddy or Sly gets that close to me, I have an instinct to pull away. With Connor, I find my body being drawn closer to him.”
The intense relationship between Lynae and Connor makes the reader want to go out and buy a 5-lb bag of gummi bears (Lynae’s favorite sweet) and continue reading it. “In A Heartbeat” has my two fave components in it, the bad boy rocker and secrets that are begging to be released.
“I never fucked you, but you, but you certainly fucked me. I thought you loved me, but man was I wrong. I gave you everything. Everything that I am! I gave you my heart, and you destroyed it. I hate you!”
Will the secrets or demons be too much for the two to stay together or will it make them drift apart? So let’s say, I can’t wait for book two to come out!
