Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.
Jen and Roxie’s Review
There is an undeniable beauty in every Colleen Hoover book. Even if at the end we don’t love the story, we still fall for her words cause they are captivating. It Ends with Us, for us, became our favorite Coho book, sigh…
Just when you think, how will she top her previous stories? Certainly she can’t show us anything new and original with all we have been reading non stop, the same storylines all year.
But she did, God she did. She shocked us with a story heart wrenchingly beautiful, raw and real. So real that certain parts didn’t only hurt our hearts but our souls too.
You see love her or not, Mrs. Hoover has the magic. She can make you fall in love with a book in one chapter. That’s all it takes really. First chapter into It Ends With Us and we were in love. There is no denying it.
We just meet Lily and Ryle and we already wanted to learn everything about them. We wanted their naked truth. We wanted more…
They are two individuals with secrets and pasts but that day, on a rooftop in Boston…They are just a man and a woman whose souls connect. No painful past, no promise of the future …
“You warned me. You said one time with you wouldn’t be enough. You said you were like a drug. But you failed to tell me you were the most addictive kind.”
Once they cross paths, they set their journey in motion. A journey that will leave you breathless and aching. A journey that will leave them changed and different once the end is reached.
Lily takes charge of her future and follows her dream. Fate puts Ryle in her path again. They fall in love, wholehearted, passionate love.
“Someone once told me that there is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.”
But as past and present collide, will the shadows of their ghosts haunt and destroy them or will it set them free?
I think about how sometimes, no matter how convinced you are that your life will turn out a certain way, all that certainty can be washed away with a simple change in tide.
If you read the authors note- please do not read till after you’ve read the book– you will see that this is a very personal story to Colleen Hoover. And it shows, you can feel it on her words, on the pages. It radiates through as the characters seek their happiness through life’s evolving path.
Lily’s journey is one of a kind, yet it is traveled by many women daily. Through her thoughts, confusion and ultimately decision, we get a small glimpse into something that is reality to many. That is never black and white.
We’ve all met a Lily, she could be a friend or family member. She could be another mom in the school our kids attend. The teller at the bank. She could even be you.
Colleen Hoover gave us the ultimate journey into something we don’t really talk about. Sometimes we judge and many times just shy away from.
She gave us a gift. A gift of a woman’s strength and love that shines brightly as she finds her way.
And for that gift, we thank you Mrs Hoover. We thank you for the tears and the smiles. We thank you for the happy moments and the ones that left us shattered. WE THANK YOU for taking us on a journey that really is too stunningly moving for words.
