What is life without hope? You hope you’ll live a life filled with love. You hope everyone you care for will be safe, never know heartache, and find peace. Life doesn’t work that way though, does it? Hearts are broken, pain is inevitable—yet you never lose hope that things will turn around and change for the better.
Somehow with each book Jay McLean writes, she captures an array of emotions, from happiness to sadness, from hope to fear. This family she’s created—the Preston clan, has taken a part of my heart and with each story, she immerses you into their lives and you feel as if you’re part of a family.
This time we get Logan’s story—the middle child of the Preston clan. He’s the arrogant stoner, the high school dropout and a huge disappointment to the rest of the family. At least that’s what he believes.
In walks Aubrey—the one who loves to much, needs to much, feels too much. Having her heart shattered made her run from her past and all she wants is to start over and erase the memories that have caused her so much pain.
Their pairing was a bit unexpected for me, but in typical Jay form, these two crack open their hearts little by little, and make it work.
“I’ve never wanted anything as badly as I want you. I just want to be with you, and I want that to be enough.”
And in typical Jay fashion, there is always that BOMB that drops and you’re left with your heart obliterated—wondering how she could possibly put it back together again.
“I made you a penny. It’s not a lucky penny. It’s a penny filled with hope. My hope. You + Me.”
I can’t commend Jay enough on her writing chomps. There is so much heart behind her words, and there were so many characters I adored. You feel as if you’re a part of the Preston clan, and I truly wouldn’t mind having my own Preston hottie 😜.
I’m itching for the next Preston book and can’t wait to read Leo’s story!!
