Once upon a time, there was a guy who got so fed up with life that he resorted to murder and mayhem just to feel alive.
Lorenzo Gambini is bored. So fucking bored. Most people either annoy him or avoid him, afraid to face him. Figuratively. Literally. With his face partially disfigured, scarred, he looks every bit the monster the stories make him out to be: the notorious menace they call Scar. They say he’s a sociopath. Maybe he’s a psychopath. Whatever path he’s on, people tend to stay far away from it.
Until one day, a young woman bumps right into him–a woman just as fed up with life, but for much different reasons. With a Scarlet Letter inked on her wrist and secrets buried deep in her soul, Morgan Myers is running from something… or maybe somebody. Lorenzo isn’t quite sure.
You can bet your ass he’s going to figure it out, though.
Roxie and Jen’s Review
We all have darkness within us. Whether it’s a tragedy from our past, a secret we keep hidden, a trait we don’t want anyone to catch. Maybe that’s why dark books call our names. Maybe we want to feel as if we’re “normal” that we love getting sucked into a crazy, twisted story. Then there’s fear—fear of the unknown, fear of falling, fear of death. Or maybe we’re just sick and f*cked up and and love to travel to the dark side where evil lurks around the corner and takes hold of our brain allowing us to live someone else’s story.
Whenever you pick up a JM book, you know that you’re in for one hell of a ride. Her books are so different, so unique. She creates these mind blowing tales that leave you sitting there with your eyes wide and your mouth hanging open.
Menace is the type of book that will give you heat, attraction, characters that are so messed up, yet you love them in spite of their flaws. So many OMG and WTF moments that your head will spin.
Lorenzo Gambini is a badass with nothing to do. He’s bored and always looking for an adventure. Thing is he looks like a monster, acts like a monster, so he must be a monster, right?!!!
Morgan Myers is always on the run. Jeezus, talk about fighting for your life. She has a shit ton of secrets and is seriously ready to give up.
The pair cross pass, more like Morgan crashes into Lorenzo, and their journey begins.
Ps… WE LOVE LORENZO!! Just listen to what he says to us…
“I happen to like my balls. They accentuate my cock quite nicely, you know. I’d show you, but well… you’ve got to earn that first. So pay attention, okay?”
She’s like a human puzzle, one he is determined to solve. But sometimes puzzles have so many pieces, impossible to fit together.
“Moments are pieces, formed together and built upon, creating the bigger picture within the border of your world. My puzzle is full of deformed shapes and jagged edges, but it still all fits together in its own twisted way, making a hideous fucking picture of my reality.”
That’s all we’re giving you. Believe us when we say—DO NOT go stalking reviews on this one. Stay away from spoilers as they will truly ruin the experience of the perfection this book is.
“You have to be careful who you give pieces of yourself to, because even a little bit here and there adds up to a hell of a lot eventually, and it’s not worth it, losing yourself to them, giving yourself to people who don’t give a fuck about you. You keep pouring yourself into other people and you’ll just wind up empty.”
YES!!! Perfect writing!! Read that quote again ^^^!! He is our dark and twisted book boyfriend—the one we can’t take home to the family ;)!
And yes, we hear you, there’s two books and you don’t wanna wait for the sequel. Blah, blah, blah. BUT… guess what?! You only have a short wait. Book 2, Grievous, releases February 6th!! BAM!! Almost here!!
“Face your fears and wipe your tears. Face your fears and wipe your tears.”
