After growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father, Army Special Forces Sgt. Brady Scott vowed never to marry or have kids. Sent stateside to get his head on straight—and his anger in check—Brady’s looking for a distraction. He finds it in his beautiful new neighbor’s one-night-only offer for hot sex, but her ability to make him forget is addictive. Suddenly, Brady’s not so sure he can stay away.
…what they need is each other.
Orphaned as a child, community center director Joss Daniels swore she’d never put herself in a position to be left behind again, but she can’t deny herself one sizzling night with the sexy soldier who makes her laugh and kisses her senseless. When Joss discovers she’s pregnant, Brady’s rejection leaves her feeling abandoned. Now, they must overcome their fears before they lose the love and security they’ve found in each other, but can they let go of the past to create a future together?
I am a HUGE Laura Kaye fan!! I have read almost ever one of her books! Her Forbidden Hero and One Night with a Hero are on the top of my list. I fell in love with Aly & Marco in the first of the hero novels, and I knew that Brady Scott’s story would be no different for me to enjoy. My husband was military for 13 years and I love a man in uniform.
We learned a little bit about Brady’s awful childhood in Her Forbidden Hero, the abuse that he and his sister endured, we also learned how protective Brady is and why he is so guarded. However, Brady is a good guy, a soldier, a good man through and through, he just hasn’t come to grips with that yet. Joss is an amazing character, she has had a rough life and it seems that everyone abondons her. Joss is warm, kind, and has a heart of gold.
Joss is sitting at a park, upset by something that happened, when Brady spots her and the protector in him can’t help but want to help her. They talk and he is instantly attracted to her. She is sweet, with a wild side that totally capitvates him. They have some pretty freaking hot truck sex and think they will never see each other again.
“Yeah, well…No, I mean sex in my truck. Sex with a man I just met. Sex in a freaking parking lot.”
He grinned. “That’s a lot of firsts.”
Wouldn’t you know that is not going to be case! Nope they live next door to each other… how’s that for the ultimate in your face! Joss & Brady are both fighting the draw to each other, and Brady continues to sabotage his own chance at happiness. She is forced to deal with Brady’s mood swings and she is also trying to battle her own insecurites. They are forced to deal with reality, and Brady has to decide if he can man up or whether he will bury his head in the sand.
“I’ve lost her. I’ve lost her and it’s your fault. Do you hear me? It’s your fucking fault!”
I loved that we did get a little Aly & Marco, you learn a lot about both the abuse they really suffered through. I also enjoyed that Joss doesn’t just accept Brady’s apology or his crap, she knows what it feels like to be unloved and she refuses to accept it.
Overall, this is a beautiful short love story with a lot of heat! I love all of Laura Kaye’s stories and I DEFINITELY recommend this one!!
