Blake Bentley had a rough upbringing, never fully believing he was good enough for anything or anyone. After being left with a broken heart by his only girlfriend, Blake swore off relationships for good and turned to the only two things that made him feel sufficient – sex and firefighting.
Tessa Collins was brought up in the traditional ‘perfect’ family – loving parents, great sister, and amazing friends. After falling in love with Jared, her life was perfect – until he betrayed her. She has no idea that his betrayal could end up costing her more than just a shattered heart.
Blake and Tessa have been friends since high school. Never wanting to admit their attraction for each other, the two always remained close friends. Now, three years later, Blake and Tessa find themselves being pulled together by a force much greater than friendship.
Blake and Tessa have promised to be friends forever, but as fate pulls them together, they embark on a roller coaster ride of a lifetime. Will his self doubt and her insecurities keep them apart? Or will they be able to promise each other always?

RESOUNDING LOVE STORY
The bonds of friendship really resonated throughout this entire standalone book. It’s one of the most endearing qualities of the love story between Blake and Tessa. The fraternal banter between Blake and his friends is something most of us would hear coming from a man cave, or at a backyard BBQ. We all have that close circle of friends, both male and female, that make life more bearable and meaningful. In this instance, those bonds are integral to the emotional integrity of the characters. This book will make you FEEL.
“This is what you do to me, baby girl. Just looking at you, touching you, smelling you…” he took a deep breath, his arms slightly trembling, “you are going to ruin me, Tess.”
“I trailed soft, wet kisses down his chest and stomach, making sure to cover every inch of his skin. I continued my way down until I was at that oh-so-sexy, drop your panties, ‘V’. I licked and kissed every inch of it as I looked up at him through my lashes. I had wanted to run my tongue over that part of him since last weekend and now was my chance. He let out a deep growl as my tongue slid down his smooth skin.”
If you’re not a fan of alternating chapter POVs, consider this your fair warning. There is an intimate knowledge of both perspectives when you read this style with the voices of both male and female characters defining their feelings and emotions as the story unfolds. But, there is also a risk of alienating the reader if they are unable to separate themselves from the emotional investment they may feel toward one particular voice. In this case, the varying POVs were seamless and easy to digest.
The prologue was the perfect introduction to Blake, and inevitably Tessa like a soft awakening of a flower in bloom. Fast forward to the present, and there are a few glitches in their story. It is comforting somewhat to see the main characters experience some of the same pitfalls that we are all guilty of – attraction and involvement with someone that is worthless, and believing our own tragic sense of worthlessness. We all tend to sell ourselves short in terms of what we should aspire to achieve out of life, and the revelations of the characters within the passages of this story are so real and tangible. Just when you think things are on the right track, the lack of honesty and fear of disclosure between Blake and Tessa end up costing them both mental and physical anguish. Throw in a stalker and some shady manipulations, and you have a tumultuous parade of events that makes for a truly gripping book. It’s hard at times not to shout at Blake and Tessa to move past their insecurities and just deal their cards on the table – face up. There are promises to be kept, and words to be spoken reverently and honestly.
The feeling that resonates in the end is that we all need to have faith in ourselves and those that guard our hearts. There is a deep, abiding love between Blake and Tessa that we should each experience in our lives. Always.
