Drop. Everything. OK…you ready?? Go to Amazon…click HERE….and just get this book and start reading. I’m serious, I’ll wait. Did you go? GOOD!!!!! Show Me the Way by AL Jackson will steal your heart, you won’t be able to put it down (I’ve been up for 22 hours, almost skipped dinner to finish reading because I just could not stop, and now I should be going to bed but instead I’m writing this review!)
I don’t even know where to begin. I’ll start by saying that Rex Gunner is broody as hell, loyal to a fault and the best single daddy ever! He is a business man, although not in that suited alpha billionaire way…in the hard hat work boots down to earth manly way, my personal fave ;) Rex is a single father who basically is a helicopter parent, he is so protective of his little Frankie Leigh, he doesn’t want anything to hurt her physically or emotionally EVER. It wasn’t in an overbearing way, once you begin to understand him and his past you will see why…this broken man, ugh…your heart will just melt.
Everything about Rex Gunner was unique. Blinding in his darkness. Warm in his coldness.
Let’s chat about Frankie Leigh for just a moment, this little girl is the spunkiest most adorable thing. She rambles on and on bouncing from one topic to the next, she has a unique fashion sense and she is so much like her daddy in every way that matters. She steals the show on more than one occasion and has this ability to bring people together.
This brings me to Rynna….small town girl back after 11 years away. Driven away by cruelty and brought back on the tail of tragedy. Her story was one that I was anxiously waiting to hear. We get bits and pieces of her past, making you wonder what happened all those years ago, what could possibly have been to tragic that she left her grandmother behind, the most important person in her life. I will tell you now, it will make you cry. Your heart will hurt for her and you will want to make everything right, for her, for Rex, for Frankie.
There was a strong level of maturity in this book, you guessed it…that schmexy fave, mature angst ;) The connection between Rynna and Rex is undeniable and so natural. We get glimpses of what they have been through separately that is keeping them both from jumping right into things in the present. I cheered them on constantly and wanted to just give them both that push over the edge.
Little by little they wiggle their way closer and closer to each other, unable to deny their feelings and let me tell you, it was hot, sweet, caring, raw…a jumble of emotions for you to sort through. But all along is was right, you can just tell that Rynna is knocking down Rex’s walls and he is slowly letting it happen.
Our connection went deeper than testing the waters. Bigger than dating or seeing how it went. Something strong blazed between us. A connection that shackled us together. Unavoidable. Irresistible.
This is one of those books that I can go on and on about so please, when you finish it (and I know you will) reach and and let’s chat!!! I can’t wait to talk about Rex and his “Little Thief” that stole his heart right out from under him!
