Music in my head, dance in my body, the rhythm of my heart.
How far can you fall in just one month? How quickly can the human spirit be broken? Where does evil hide in plain sight?
Ash wants to dance. Needs it. To leave behind a life of expectation and duty, to set his soul free.
But life is never that simple. Every step is a journey on a new road.
For every action, there is a reaction.
Every choice has a consequence.
And when you meet the wrong person, all bets are off.
Laney tolerates her limitations, pushing quietly at boundaries. But when Ash crashes into her world through rage and violence, it sets off a chain reaction that neither of them expected.

Slave to the Rhythm is my first book by Jane Harvey-Berrick. I know, I know…How can this be!?!!
I went into this book without reading the blurb and boy, was I in for a complete surprise. Based on the title and the cover I was waiting for a rocker or a dancer book. Imagine my surprise when all of a sudden I’m reading about human trafficking in Las Vegas. I was a goner within a couple of chapters, captivated by this story instantly.
Ash is a dancer from Slovenia, chasing the American Dream as a dancer in Vegas. Unfortunately his dreams are cut short when, on arrival, he realizes his dream job is run by the Russian Mafia. With no support, he falls into the cruel hands of the Bratva. He is soon without a dream, fighting for his life.
Laney is on vacation with her friends when he runs into Ash. Soon after they are fleeing Vegas. I don’t want to give away this story, it’s very unique and unalike anything I have ever read. Ash and Laney’s love story is slow and one of a kind. It emerges from the ashes of the horrors of Vegas and rises to a beautiful relationship that began unexpectedly.
Jane Harvey-Berrick beautifully incorporates the horrors of human trafficking in today’s America with hope, love and dance. Ash’s struggle to rise above the cruelty of his reality is hard to read at times and you can’t help but feel his pain. Laney’s support is unwavering and her strength is unparalleled despite the complications that arise. While the story starts out with a BANG, around the middle it lost a little bit of steam for me, but picked up quickly.
“We did everything backward, But that’s us, that’s our story.”
And what a story it is!!! From the darkness of human depravity emerges an unlikely couple and they DANCE to the RHYTHM of the MUSIC they created out of broken dreams and lost hope. Looking forward to read more from this author!!!
About Jane Harvey-Berrick
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to write. Perhaps it was growing up in a village well known for its mystery and folklore, which sparked my imagination as a child.
I enjoy writing in several different genres, and I’ve just published my first romcom, ‘Dazzled’.
All my books have a little me in them, and I’m inspired by the personal stories of those around me. It’s often from a simple discussion overheard in the train (‘Exposure’), in a café, or in the street, where ideas for characters or scenes come to me.
I fell in love with both Sam (‘The New Samurai’) and the eponymous Sebastian in ‘The Education of Sebastian’ and the sequel ‘The Education of Caroline’, and missed them desperately once I’d finished their stories. I love writing dialogue and always try to include touches of humour in the most poignant stories.
Whether you like adult romance novels, new or young adult writing, thrillers, or fantasy, I hope you’ll enjoy the journey through my stories.
