A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington DC, you see first-hand how hard life can be and that sometimes the only way to survive is to become harder. I have a reputation for being cold, callous, intimidating – and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me – I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will get you off. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming – and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room and am knee deep in a damn compost pit.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be hard, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that – that I know how to do.
When I sat down to read Sustained, I really was in the mood for some comedic relief. Emma Chase’s books always have me laughing out loud, fanning myself, and falling in love with the leading man. What I got was so much more than I expected. I am hopelessly in love with Sustained.
This time around, we get Jake Becker’s story. He is another swoony lawyer with a bad case of commitment phobia. His past really did a number on him, so he kinda just goes from one woman to the next. He’s a successful lawyer with a line of women waiting for a turn in his bed.

Fate intervenes though and he’s face to face with a kid who will alter his future. Little does he know that the kid who steals his wallet has changed the course of his life. This is how he meets Chelsea McQuaid and her 6 nieces and nephews. Talk about a chaotic life. She’s smart, beautiful, and funny but comes with a lot of baggage—baggage Jake isn’t quite sure he can carry. How can these two possibly make it work when there are so many obstacles to overcome?
The journey of Jake and Chelsea is just incredible. Their passion, heat and chemistry is off the charts. Jake is SWOONWORTHY. GAH!! Loved him. Pure perfection—angst, humor and heat. LOVED IT!!
This is one journey you don’t want to miss. This story completely consumed me and I couldn’t put it down.
