^^and then some^^
I just finished this book less than an hour ago. I sit here at my computer, eyes still damp, red and puffy and at a loss for words. The Promise by Melody Grace is a poetic tear jerker that is so beautifully written. The way the words flow and pull you into the story is beyond anything I’ve recently read.
This is the story of Claire. Of Hope and her bucket list. Second chances and new beginnings. And Theo…
“Theo. Theo. He was a part of my pulse now, a heartbeat sounding, low and steady with every breath. I knew it would end in heartbreak, my own if I was lucky, but that night, I let myself hold his memory close, suspended in that dark corner of that backstage room together, close enough to touch.”
The magnitude of this connection was astounding but real. It wasn’t overly exaggerated or rushed. It was slow and it was real..Claire and Theo, it just made sense, yet it didn’t. Possibly doomed from the start we are constantly left guessing as to what is going to happen.
“From the first time until the last, he made my pulse skip and stutter like fireworks bursting in the night sky.”
Friends and family and of course Theo are there for Claire, even if they don’t all know what she is going through. There is just something so likable and lovable about her that no one can resist. She’s sweet, artistic and determined to build a life for herself, if not for this determination she would never have met Theo. Things always happen for a reason, no matter how hard that is to accept.
“A week, a month – I’d sworn that every moment with him would be enough to last me a lifetime, but I’d lied. I could live to a hundred, spend decades in his arms, and I could never have enough. There was never enough time.”
