While trying to rid herself of one debt, Amara is forced into a new one with a man she thought she left behind. When she finds herself unable to shake him off at every turn, she begins to question if the person who once brought her safety is the one she should now be running from.*Note: This is the second and last book of this series.*
If you’ve read any of Claire’s books, you are well aware of her story telling abilities. Well, the Contracts & Deceptions series is way beyond story telling. Reading this series was like trying to dissect some serious plot in a movie.
This story was so in-depth; the characters, the twists and turns, the heartache. It was all just mind boggling at some point. My head was actually spinning as a read. Is that normal?
I read The Devil’s Contract and The Sinner’s Bargain back to back. So needless to say, I have a serious book hangover. Let me start by saying none of this story was predicable; it’s original. And its one that sticks with you.
Firstly, I read this book in pretty much a day and a half. I would have finished it sooner, but my freaking heart was beating so fast I was having heart palpitations. I was so involved in these scenes and you just have NO clue what the heck is happening next, so you read read read so fast, your minding is working double time. Too bad for me, this continued for the whole book, so I couldn’t catch my breathe. (Not exaggerating)
I had at least 2 emotional outbursts. Or what we would call, “Ugly Cries.” I was so engrossed in these scenes and the characters that you can’t help but share their feelings; their hurt and their pain. You literally FEEL your heart hurting.
I recall one particular part I actually had to detach myself from the book because I “needed a minute.” Well, I needed more than a minute. More like a couple of hours. Then I thought okay, its safe now. I can dive back in. Haha, that joke was on me.
Let me talk about Amara. She will forever be one of my favorite heroine’s. Her bravery and loyalty never ceases to amaze me. After all she goes through just for the love of her mother, and still she walks with her shoulders broad and her head held high.
And Colin. God I love this man. Talk about loyalty. The way in which he loves Amara wholeheartedly and would do anything to keep her safe. You can’t help but fall in love. And my God do they bang!! God help us! This book really is soooo hot!! So much good stuff I don’t know where to begin.
But honestly, you never know who to trust; who you think is lying, or is trying to get ahead of the game for their own personal gain.
Claire’s writing is what sells you though. She’s brilliant; she’s descriptive and she’s hardcore. It all just flows. This story is very intense, and dark. Clearly with titles like The Devil’s Contract and The Sinner’s Bargain you know you’re in for it. There is NO way I was getting through reading this series without a support team. Because when you are losing your mind, and you want to scream from the top of your lungs, WHY??? OMG WHY?? Or, are you f’in kidding me?? Or, did she really just write that??? Or my favorite, “I can’t handle this shit!” (That part was accompanied with sobs.)
The Sinner’s Bargain is a love story that hurts like hell. But it’s just so much more. One word comes to mind; haunting. The Sinner’s Bargain haunted me; scared the shit out of me.
And guess what? I would read it again in a heart beat. 5 stars, 5 HOLLAs. 5 Everything!
