Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series, returns with the first installment of the Legal Briefs Series.
As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.
Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.
Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.
That’s definitely not part of the plan.
Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.
But when Stanton, her “friend with mind-blowing benefits” begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.
Her head tells her she’s crazy…and her heart says something else entirely.
What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?
The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.
Jen and Roxie’s Review
We both have to admit, we were a little nervous going into this story. Emma Chase is our hero. She created Drew Freakin Evans after all. And holy hell, she did not disappoint! Stanton is just off the charts HOT!!!
Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl gets pregnant and they live happily every after…
Wait, hold the phone!!
Not in this story.
Boy goes off to college instead to become one of DC’s successful defense lawyers. God do we both want to do something really bad to have him defend us!!! Meet sexy lawyer extraordinaire Stanton Shaw. He has a plan—work hard, play harder. The world is at his feet. Meanwhile his high school sweetheart is back at home raising their daughter. He has no worries and is confident everything will go according to his plan.
Sofia Santos. Loved her. She is hardworking, smart, beautiful, independent and successful in a man’s world. The world is her oyster. She isn’t looking for love or commitment—making partner at the firm is her number one priority.
Santos and Sofia have a friends with benefits relationship that works perfectly for both of them. And Jesus, are they hot together.
“You want to be fucked?” I rasp.
She moans. Squirms. “Yes.”
…”You want to come?”
“Please,” she begs.
“How bad?” I taunt… “Feels like you want to come pretty bad.”
But could their friends with benefits relationship possibly be more?
Stanton’s carefully built make believe family is crumbles before his very eyes when he receives an invitation to his baby momma’s wedding. And is name is not on the invitation as the groom!!! OH. MY. GOD. How can this be?!!!
What’s the poor guy to do?!!! Stop the wedding, naturally!!! She is his girl, his forever after. He is a man on a mission and he decides to bring Sofial along to crash the upcoming nuptials. You know for moral support, guidance and all that.
Loved these two!!! Emma Chase is the master of male POV’s and she nailed Stanton perfectly Cocky, dominating, smart, so freakin delicious AND oh so clueless.
But we also loved that she gave us Sofia’s POV too. Sophia was a woman who perfectly fit into the fast paced lawyer world of DC, but also had a sexy, sensitive side.
This new series by Emma Chase started off with a bang and we cannot wait for the next book!!
