It’s not easy being the bad guy.
Yeah, that’s a lie. It’s pretty damn simple. You act and you own it. You sell your soul to protect those you love and screw the rest.
It’s the restraint that’s hard. The demons that poke at your trigger, burn in your gut—just waiting for a second of freedom to unleash the fire in your soul.
Call me a villain. Call me whatever helps you sleep at night and feel good about the black and white of love. But watch your back because I don’t care. Until I do.
And then I implode.
Note: VIPER directly follows the action in Tracing Holland (NSB #2), but can also be read as a standalone.
t’s no secret I love Alyson Santos. Night Shifts Black is one of my all time favorite reads. I get excited every time she goes back to the writing cave to give us more stories.
Viper is book 3 in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I was super excited about this one. Wes is kind of an antihero—the villain some may say. He made a huge mess of his life, and his career and friendships are all falling apart. He’s spiraling down as he tries to gain back some of the control.
Hannah is an old friend, the sister of his ex fiancé. They become very unlikely allies and support to each other as they both struggle with the changing direction of their paths. The paths that are now crossing, intervening.
Alyson has a voice that is so unique and different. Once again she gives us a rockstar romance that stands out from the rest. Her characters are real and flawed and they make mistakes. They hurt and they battle demons. Some demons are bigger than others. Some families are more messed up than others.
“I need you to kick the world’s ass for me while I hide. That’s why I came to you. I need you to be my viper.”
Wes and Hannah form a bond as their lives implode and they become closer quickly and unexpectedly.
Wesley—I kind of loved to hate. At times I truly wanted to smack some sense into him. He was set on a path of destruction and avoidance as the backlash of his actions caught up to him. Other times I just wanted to hug him and tell him it will be ok. He was complicated, growing up rich with parents who are distant and unloving. He never really looked in the mirror until now.
“We’re all sessions in progress. Aspiring humans trying to survive a world that rarely gets better. Only we do.”
I loved how these two changed each other for the better as they both faced their fears. Can’t wait for more from Alyson Santos!

About Alyson Santos
I’m a writer, musician, and cat lover. I’m also an alternative music junkie. Seriously, totally addicted.
I write what needs to come out, whether it’s pain, tears, or laughter. I write people and relationships, about the beauty and horror of what we do to ourselves and each other. I write Love. Vengeance. Compassion. Cruelty. Trust. Betrayal. Forgiveness. Darkness, and the incredible way humans destroy and heal each other.
I like to eradicate barriers, refusing to be confined by the laws of physics or limitations of reality. I will befriend a vast population of possibilities and introduce them in ways that might surprise you.
