I remember the lights.
I remember I wanted to photograph them, the way the red and blue splashed across his cold, emotionless face. But I knew even if my feet could move from the place where they had cemented themselves to the ground and I could run for my camera, I wouldn’t be able to capture that moment.
I had trusted him, I had loved him, and even though my body had changed that summer, he’d made sure to help me hold on to who I was inside, regardless of how the exterior altered.
But then everything changed.
He stole my innocence. He scarred my heart. He took everything I thought I knew about my life and fast-pitched it out the window, shattering the glass that held my world together in the process.
I remember the lights.
The passionate, desperate, hot strikes of red. The harsh, cruel, icy bolts of blue.
They symbolized everything I endured that summer.
And everything I would never face again.
I had been waiting quite anxiously for this book to arrive in the mail. Ms. Steiner asked me if Schmexy would like a paperback arc and we were so excited to be chosen for this opportunity. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to fit it into my schedule (moving to a new house this week) but the day that it arrived I dove right in, even grabbed my notecards and highlighter to go old school to take my notes!
Right off the bat I knew that this book would inspire me. I could relate to Natalie and her struggle right away – a recent break up with a high school boyfriend, the daughter of the man who basically OWNS the whole town and a need to find herself, the real her, I think is something that will speak to everyone. Who doesn’t remember their first love and the awful break up that followed? And I hope that we all had that one BFF that gave killer advice…
“If you give your all to someone else, realize you may one day have to change all you know about yourself.”
How true is that, Willow truly was a great friend to Nat. It made me happy that she had someone who wholeheartedly supported her in everything. Natalie sets a goal for herself and is determined to meet it. This is how she meets Rhodes…her new personal trainer, bad boy extraordinaire, ladies man….the list goes on. Oh….Em….Gee This man is just WOW. He’s sexy and brooding, has secrets and is edgy but before you know it he is worming his way into your heart.
There is a constant back and forth struggle with Natalie and Rhodes. It’s hot and it’s cold but it is always comes back to being honest with each other.
“I was going to need a chiropractor for the whiplash.”
I couldn’t have said it better LOL This unexpected relationship turns into so much more. Secrets and pasts come together in their self discovery. I was on their team and cheering for them throughout the entire story. Every chapter opened up something new for us to discover along with them. It brings real life issues such as being overweight, being a foster child, having the “mean girl” be a complete bitch to you…..just so much for us all to be able to understand.
Join Natalie and Rhodes on their journey and get inspired!
“Rhodes was an unanticipated thunderstorm. And I danced in his rain.”
Thank you Kandi for putting a PAPERBACK ARC into my hands!!!
It was an experience that I have missed LOL
