My Review of the Cityscape Series
I was pleasantly surprised how fast I flew through this series. I received Come Undone on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Then I become sucked into this story after Come Undone, and 1-clicked the rest that night!
This book had more twists and turns than I could keep up with. I loved every single time I was left with a blank face thinking “OH what in the world is going on?”. Number one I never condone cheating… EVER! However, I never once felt like I was reading a book regarding an affair, crazy right? That is really what this book is about, a woman who has major issues within her marriage and an amazing connection with someone she should walk away from. I think because of the way it was written it allowed you the opportunity to FEEL more than think about the plot.
The build is so full of angst and I felt like my insides were being squished. I just was almost unable to breathe half of the time. I just wasn’t sure what I was feeling it was so intense. I also commend how there was not this jump into everything, it made it all feel very believable.
Olivia was so damaged and it was awful the crap she dealt with. On the outside everything appeared great. She had a “great” marriage, with a “loving” husband and was looking at the rest of her life. Of course nothing is ever as it appears and I was able to feel her struggles more than just read them. I will say that if for some reason I ever have the experience she has when her eyes meet David’s I too would have had doubts. I mean Oh WOW the connection they had was just insane! David OH MY GOOD GOD!!! I am talking move the hell over book boyfriends because he is an amazing specimen of a man! Ok so I really don’t want to give any spoilers but I will say this. I CRIED over David. CRIED CRIED CRIED because he is so amazing, he just GETS her but he knows that she is married and he knows he doesn’t want to be “that guy”. I just felt so much love and pain for him.
So then there is Bill, her husband, ummm he is a complex character for me. I wanted to like him because I thought he really did love Olivia. I am still on the fence about him. I think he has some crazy issues and there is something that even in the beginning didn’t sit right with me. I was really angry with him a lot of the time and that kind of irked me. I felt too that he was such an asshole but subtly so that you didn’t SEE it immediately. I can’t fully explain it.
Ok so Come Undone is book 1, there were a few things I wasn’t overly in love with in that book. There is one scene in the book that kind of killed it for me, but I decided that overall it was really good. Now with that said Come Alive and Come Together BLEW MY EFFIN MIND!! I am saying seriously the writing improved a lot, and the story was just crazy!! If I thought I loved David in Come Undone well hold on to your spare panties girls because holy shit!!! The song “Sex is on Fire” pretty much sums up my reading experience.
“I’d been with boys before; I’d been with boys I’d thought were men. But this was different. David kissed like a man. He tasted, he smelled and he fucked like a man.”
There was a lot of sadness too, I felt like story flowed so well and I just really was sucked in! So a definite Schmexy approval and it will be under Amy’s Must Reads because if you like a steamy, angsty, heartbreaking story than 1-click away!!
