The only thing inevitable in love is despair.
I knew from the start that he would wreck me.
Nothing could have prepared me for the day he walked into my life …
or the day he walked out of it.
All that remained was a shell of the girl I once was.
And I don’t know if I’ll ever recover.
Love Nouveau was recommended to me by a good friend. And when a good friend who has great taste in books says, “Trish, you NEED to read this”, you read it. I have to say, the synopsis drew me in for sure. The cover is outstanding, and original. So already I am stoked to start this. Then I start to read, and I am pleasantly surprised by the writing. This book does not read like it is a debut novel.
This story was beautifully hand crafted into a work of art. BL Berry knocked this out the park. First let me just tell you a bit about Love Nouveau. This story is about Phoenix and Ivy. Ivy decided to study her senior year abroad to get away from everything; from her rich, horrific family who treat her like dirt, and Matt her ex-boyfriend. Matt is a douche, plain and simple. Ivy was with him for all the wrong reasons. Now that’s she’s home after a year, she’s ready for a new life. She’s kind of a rebel; definitely making some serious mistakes and poor decisions that hurt people in her life. Ivy needed this time away. Doesn’t make me dislike her one bit though. One thing I liked about Ivy was that she was flawed. And was looking to right some wrongs in her life.
So Ivy and Rachel (her partner in crime) decide to go to a college house party with lots of booze and hot guys. AND…Rachel is “the best” partner in crime you could ask for. As the night goes on….she meets Phoenix. And they hit it off! And they flirt…He’s quite the charmer. But none of their conversation is forced; everything is coming so naturally for them. It’s so real. They talk about anything and everything. And the couple of days they do spend together isn’t nearly enough time for MOST people to grab that connection. But they do. And it’s electric…So believable. You can feel a magnetic pull between them. Their dialog is smart, and funny. They are like two old souls, that walk the earth, searching for one another and when they meet…they click…God I want Phoenix! Does he really exist???
“From afar, it looks like you have it all together, but when you examine it up close…it’s nothing but a blur of colorful dots and beautiful chaos.”
He just…gets her…And one single kiss….changes it all….
“I’m yours,” I breathe into the phone. “My body, my soul…it’s nothing without you. Every last piece of me is yours for the taking.”
These two carry on a very non-conventional relationship. Regardless, it doesn’t take much for Phoenix and Ivy to fall for each other. And this is where the ladies are going to go head over heals for Phoenix. He is the ultimate Book Boyfriend, hands down. Everything about him screams perfection. It’s the way he wants Ivy, the things he says to her, the way he expresses his feelings, his need and craving for her. I was melting just reading.
Things like this are what drive me bananas for Phoenix. But in all honesty, this whole entire story reads so beautifully. I was shocked to find that this was BL Berry’s debut novel. She’s very talented. And it must be said that her writing alone earns her 5 stars from me.
Love Nouveau brought me through an array of emotions. Starting off with some fun dialog that just made me smile. And then I continued with that warm fuzzy feeling; that was probably me falling in love with this story!! Yeah, I definitely fell in love. But then things change and I was definitely NOT a happy camper. More like pissed off and heart broken. And wondering what the F*ck just happened!!! The twists and turns that BL Berry threw in were NOT expected! Talk about Angst!! Just never saw it coming. Kinda hits you like a freight train. The insane emotional roller I was brought on reading this book was just out of hand. Thank God for my “support group.”
I have to say, I need more of Phoenix and Ivy. That is a MUST! There were so many things holding them back; geography, jobs, trust, misunderstandings, lies…
Ladies, if you are looking to be blown away then read Love Nouveau. It gets my 5 HOLLAS and 5 Stars…
